Got the garden planted today. Put in cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, corn, beans, peas, peppers... now I've just got to keep it wet and weeded.
 
rain has been horrible and then all the stupid ants are everywhere....Hugs, Di

I put my ladies to work in the garden this morning, chickens are wonderful garden helpers, I worked on pulling all the dead summer vines out and they followed behind me gobbling up the bugs, they tore apart my carrots but it was worth it since I swear they ate their weight in rollie pollies and other pesky garden bugs...if only there was a chicken that ate ants and flies then I would be all set! We planted tomatoes, peas, beans, squash, pumpkin, cabbage, lettuce, more sunflowers and more cucumbers.....which of course means we will have an extreme heat wave in two weeks because that is how it always works when I try to get a jump start on planting.

Will ducks really eat ants? My husband wants runner ducks but I have said no since we have a very nice pool and I just see the two conflicting but if they eat ants I would make it work somehow...maybe turn it into a true lagoon pool

Muscovies will eat the flies (for that matter, so will chickens, but they don't seem to be as effective as muscovies). Aardvarks will eat the ants.
