I started building the coop last weekend and am continuing it today. It'll be 3'x5' and have the nesting box extend the total length out to 6'. I am planning on having a regular light inside, along with some sort of heater for the winter. It'll drop in to the mid- to high-20s here on the outskirts on occasion. For summer, I'll end up installing some sort of fan to help circulate the air then, too. So my quest begins for the best choices for each. Does anyone have recommendations on these items? I have not gone out to look at the options at the stores yet, but I thought I'd seek the wisdom of the Chicken Gods first. I already have an aquarium timer power strip that can control two items during day hours, two during night hours, and six regular items. I will probably use it for flexibility.
- Small 6"x6"-12"x12" heater that has temperature control or a power control strip that is temperature based.
- Small switch box that will operate the regular light, heat lamp, heater, and fan? I think regular light switches are overkill.
- Small 6"x6"-12"x12" fan. With our heat, I'm not worried about a temperature control here. It's either on or off.
Then again, if I can find a power outlet or strip that is temperature based, I can use one of them to control the heater during winter and fan during summer. Oh, the ideas are rolling...
Thanks ahead of time. And if anyone is interested, I started a Coop Page for my
Little Red Henhouse. I'll add on as I build the coop.
