Arizona Chickens

Question,is it OK for my girls to sleep outside the coop still within their enclosed run with this cold weather coming? They have a new spot they like. It is covered where they sleep and partially protected by a shower curtain behind them, fence to the right, open on the other sides. They like to sleep here up on a long fat pole.I have a heat lamp on hanging from the pole below them, at night it is on since they like to sleep outside the coop lately. I was just turning it on in the early mornings so they could heat up if need be while they scrach for food. Heat rises so it may keep them from the worst of the night temps a bit. What do you think? Should I leave them alone or move them in the coop? They are happy there. That is my quail on the right.

How often does your quail lay eggs..???

its midnight and my hens are out there flapping around the run and i'm not sure why.
their coop is inside a fully enclosed run and they for some reason like to roost on TOP of it, instead of inside it... how do i break that habit? its such a pain to clean that roof off all the time when they have deep litter in the coop! sigh, the newer batch of pullets are inside, but the original 5 are stubborn and probably cold.
any ideas?

Is there a roost bar inside the coop? And if so, then maybe just make the top impossible to perch on. you could Put a tube of netting from it to the other roof, or put it on blocks so the roof is almost touching the roof of the run.

My quail was laying every day until I moved her into the chicken run from another outdoor cage. She takes off in the winter from laying but come spring it will be an egg every day again.when my chickens were chicks, they stayed in her outdoor cage. They all get along great now. She is low man on the totem pole but she is OK with that.

Yeah, our 3, that we bought last... do the same thing.. I go grab them from the roof top & put them in with all
of the other girls. We do have plans on raising it up so they will not be able to get up there.. The coop is for
bantams but all the big girls love going in there together..
They do seem cramed?? Who knows I would not mind if the three slept else where.. I did try putting them
in another area... But they kept going right back to the top of the coop.. I did start putting some of the
Pine mulch on the roof. It does help with their droppings..
Do you think they like to be that close together ??

ok now we would like some quail..
Everyone keep your ears open for free to good home " quail" we will take them...

thanks for the replies. yes we do have 2 roosting bars in there actually and i wish they would use them. they used to roost on the old coop too, and so i replaced it with a taller one and put storage boxes on top so they couldnt be up there, but they just roosted on the storage boxes! that was a mess, and a little dangerous too because my brahma would hit the boxes and slide down so i removed them and just let them have their way. this spring i plan to redo the entire chicken area so i guess i'll just have to deal with it until then.
still never figured out why they were awake that late. i have one hen who likes to get down whenever i turn the light on so she can eat the crickets and stuff on the ground. but i never had the light on last night. oh well, they were all safe and sound this morning and thats what matters.
