Arizona Chickens

I wonder where this flu came from?? It has not been this bad in 25+ years...

Each year it will just get worst. Our food is so drenched with meds that supper flues and diseases are developing. Even our grains are not he same. Our wheat of today turns into sugar faster in our body's then the wheat of the 60's. taking our food in our hands gives hope. Monsanto controls our food...... Controls the grains, and the food that goes into our meats. Shot!:p:lol: what am I doing? We all know all of this, preaching to the choir again.

My dad had a friend that wrote a very successful political book. Being a man of research, he researched the people that were reading his book. Disappointed, the only people that were buying and reading his book were people that already agree with him. Money was not the point. He vowed he would go back to writing text books only.

Good to see many of you still here and all the new folks! Yup still alive and still have chickens

Hey, long time no hear, glad your back.

I'm spending the day fixing plumbing leaks. Two of my brass ball valve shut-offs to turkey waterers failed. They were insulated and under cover, but that wasn't enough with this last bad freeze. I'm replacing all the brass fittings with steel, but the steel ones are hard to find, I had to special order from Grainger's last time this happened. I hate those brass fittings. They always crack when it freezes. I have already been to the plumbing hardware store once to get a galvanized plug to replace a plastic one that broke then when I turned the water back on to test it, saw the other valves spewing water everywhere.

Your going to galvanized over brass? Wow didn't think I would ever hear that. Where did you get your brass ones from? People don't believe me when I tell them about the quality differences from the big box stores. We replaced several lines these last few days and had one lady argue with me about the thickness of the type M copper on her roof until I physically showed her. Seeing is believing sometimes. Good luck with your leaks.

did you know metals are anti-bacterial. Copper, silver, steel and stainless are are among the best in killing bacteria. At one time family's, no matter how pure tried to have 1 silver coin, it was put in milk to keep it good longer. Using metals in plumbing and AC systems prevents legionnaire disease, and others. PVC dose not do this, I used a section of cooper in my mister system. I have no idea is it makes any difference in irrigation.
(I collect useless information)

Very good information about the metals. Did you also know that the only 2 metals used in plumbing today that get along are copper and brass? If you run a high volume of water through copper and a different metal is connected to it you will get a slow decomposing of one of the metals, usually the copper. Just something to add to your collection.

This I know, I once work for a contracting company, we had a $250,000 project, replacing piping for that reason. Some of it incased in concrete. Really messy. The original work was done between 1940 and 1960. The concrete was crumbling but water was again run thru it so it was declared good. NO! Not good. New construction started, when it was discovered the pipes were not there, and soon the concrete wouldn't be there much longer. Oh, forgot, we paid for all the work, it was on a military bass. I will not forget that. During the war, material hard had to come by. After the war additions and repairs were done with what should be the right metals. By the 60's it was abandon. (To many blue prints). In the 80's new construction at location, but someone decided to save money, against the advise of my company, we should have known before we started. No longer remember all the different metals used. I think that is why some of it had concrete poured oner it. The concrete, I also think was of pure quality. I would like to think the job was dune "down and dirty" as a temporary use... Then the war continued and it was forgotten how it was made.

The city just replaced our water pipes in this neighborhood. It is all copper. The original pipes were in the alley and were installed in the early 1950's. The water runs so clear now that we are thinking of giving up the bottled water.

The new pipes are in the street rather than the alley. It makes me wonder what they have planned for the alley.

Bottled water in this country is a a Madison Avenue ruse. For the most part we have the best water in the world. If anything gets my blood boiling it is the misues of WATER. Water as a commodity is WRONG and wars will be fought over water. It is true that water directly from the faucet in some areas tastes awful but a filtration system fixes that . Also pouring out your drinking water ahead of time and letting the chlorine dissapate is good.

If you care about how our world is run by commerce do a search on Water and global limits. We could do so much better if we learned how to use this wonderful resource that so many people in the world sacrifice so much in order to have enough not to be thirsty.
