Mohonri - I hope your talk went well. It was interesting hearing all that you were up to on Sat. I also enjoyed the garden pictures. Mine is pathetic in comparision, but I am pressing on!

Nessa & All - Interesting rabbit discussion and pictures from CL. When I was little we had a pet house rabbit. It used the litter box (until Mom cleaned it) and ate the curtain bottoms that dragged on the floor. At times I have had neighbors in Mesa with free range rabbits. Sometimes the left them out in the unfenced front yard. It was the weirdest thing, they stayed in the yard and dind't seem to wonder off. However, I haven't seen them, so maybe the family moved or a dog got them or something. They were normal sized rabbits.
Moving a Broody Hen. In the BYC threads I have read, they say to move them at night and something about not letting their legs hang down when you do.

We went out to the fish and game expo at ben avery today. It was wonderful. We got to get up close and personal with quite a few creatures even an alligator and a HUGE water monitor. There was tons of snakes and lizards. Also raptors, bats, and several different types of small furry mammals. David (my son) won a fishing package from Cabela's which included a brand new zepco rod and reel, tackle box, and a cabela's hat. Then we took David over to the shooting area where they had booths set up so that you could shoot just about anything you can imagine. David was so proud that he got to shoot a 22. I was nervous but he's a boy and he was really into meeting the officers and learning. Fun for all and the best part was it was totally free.
Most notable thing that I learned was about lead ammunition. Seems that the California condor was being harmed due to lead ammo. After hunting season they would start finding them dead for no apparent reason. Well it was from hunters using lead ammo and then gutting the kills where they fell. Lead ammo scatters a bit and the birds would eat the leftovers and ingest the lead which would make them sick and they would die. So there ya go if you didn't know then you just learned something new

Well, as I posted before, I have been feeding the winter weeds to my hens. I have pretty much cleaned up the alleys in the area. Oddly, I have noticed that most of the winter grass this year was fox tail. No wild oats to be found. Wonder why?
We had a swarm of bees about twenty feet up in a carob tree. My son wanted to call an exterminator. I told him to leave them alone. They will leave by themselves. Let someone else pay $200 to get rid of them.
And sure enough, the next morning they were gone.
And this afternoon, I was sitting in the back yard and noticed that although the citrus trees are loaded with blooms, no bees were working them. That is not a good sign. I sort of wish we had the bees back.

Long week ahead of me this week. No days off, but I am setting eggs this week so that should be fun, getting the bators set up and ready and waiting for the eggs to arrive in the mail.
My two sons at Shadow Mountain are off for spring break this week. I'm thinking of all sorts of chores for them to do... but Thursday they are headed out with some of their young men's leaders at Church to go camping.
Do you think it will really rain this week?
I actually hope it will. We still need the moisture.

Mahonri - Thought I might see you at that butchering class... It was a good experience. Do you have boys at Shadow Mt. High School? That isn't very close to you. Or is there an elementary school of the same name? DH went to Shadow Mt. high.
We are hosting Easter this year. That is a big deal in my family. There will be about 50 of us. Lots of kids. Big egg hunt. Lots of food. I am feeling stressed as my yard is loaded with weeds, and the house is a mess. Also, I am out of any money to spend on decorations or goodies for the kids. Spent it all on hatching eggs.
The easter baskets will be empty. Well, as I told my daughter, Easter really isn't about the candy, is it.
DS and DH went on their first Boy Scout camp out this weekend. Boy Scouts is so cool. The boys planned it and executed the whole trip. Parents are banished to camp far away from them. The boy is so proud. Scouts has been so good for him.
Made a decision about how to build out the broody's area so that she has room to move and stretch and the babies won't fall. Just need to get that done in the midst of getting ready for Easter, Oh, and homeschooling the kiddos.
No wonder I came down with a virus!
