Will let you know for sure. Will be candling the duck eggs on Saturday. Mama broody doing a good job so far.

Hi Everyone...got a few new gals added to my backyard flock and thought I'd post some 'eye candy' pics...they are teh "imperial ringlet' strain of heritage barred rocks...got them from jeremy Woeppel in Nebraska...originally came from Reese-Good Shepherd flock and Jeremy took it from there...watching these gals forage through our yard almost makes my eyes well up (-; I will be getting more BR hatching eggs later in spring from the same breeder...this week i have a baker's dozen of Jeremy's German strain New Hampshires crossed onto Reese/Good Shepherd (A merican) strain New Hampshires---should be some ultra nice chicks late Feb. added some pics of them too. Loving this weather...but trying not to dread what's coming in a few more months )-:
Oh they are all so beautiful!

Quote: Thanks for the info! I would love 10 more trees, but I already have 2 apples, 2 plums, a nectarine, a mandarin, a lime, and 2 moringas (hopefully...they are still very small seedlings). And those are just my edibles. I also have a palo verde, 2 desert willows, and an extremely large date palm. So seriously, if anyone is interested in splitting an order, let me know.

And I second DesertMarcy's question...what's with the aspirin?

Can we join in? Scottsdale Chicken Farmers unite! I know I'm in the 'hood, but it's still Scottsdale! BTW, I've read the code and Scottsdale classifies crowing with yelping, barking and any other habitual noise disturbance. Sooooooo, technically, you CAN have a rooster if he doesn't bother anyone. I just happened to get lucky with a rooster that rarely crows, and I know my neighbors a few houses down on every side, they all say they don't hear him or they do and it doesn't bother them. A few have said they actually LIKE hearing him in the occasion he does crow. We do have a rooster condo in the garage that he sleeps in at night. I think that helps. We forgot last night and he crowed at about 7 am, but just a minute or so. So far so good...

I totally believe you! DS #1 (7) and DS #3 (4) as well as DH have horrible allergies. DS#1 has been hospitalized twice for asthma/respiratory issues. Last time was a couple of years ago and he spent 3days in the ICU. It was horrible...anyway we only eat raw honey now, I'm just tired of paying an arm and leg for it (we go through a lot of honey between the 7 of us) plus, I'd like to give a local farmer my business directly. I just googled him, he's about 40 miles from my house...one way! Yikes!
I get my honey from Galen at Backyard Farmer. He raises it at his place in Mesa - Lehi area, I think.

I got a new quart delivered yesterday and it's delicious. I go through a lot of honey as well as I make all our bread and it's about 1/4c of honey per loaf. We've recently gone to the whole/real food side and I will do my darndest to never buy bread from a store again.

Here's part of the Scottsdale Code:

Sec. 4-17. General restrictions.
A. Cattle, horses, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, birds, fowl, and any other animal or bird, and the pens, stalls, stables, yards, shelters, cages, areas, places and premises where they are held or kept, shall be so maintained that flies, insects, or vermin, rodent harborage, odors, ponded water, the accumulation of manure, garbage, refuse or other noxious material do not become a public health nuisance.

And the other part:
C. No person shall knowingly keep or harbor any animal or fowl which by frequent or habitual howling, yelping, barking, crowing or the making of other noises shall annoy or disturb a neighborhood or any two (2) or more persons, one (1) of which may be a police officer or an animal control officer.
(Code 1972, § 4-203; Ord. No. 2479, § 1, 8-31-92)

Section B deals with pigs, so I didn't include it. So saying Scottsdale doesn't allow roosters is like saying Scottsdale doesn't allow Yorkies...or children...geesh...my kids can be louder than my Roo. ;) We'll see how long before I get a notice, then he'll have to go (the Roo, not the kids!).
