Welcome!

I agree, BUT my sister and I have had the most problems with EEs in the heat than any other breed.

Gues what chicken I got today?? Here is a few clues..

The person that gave her to me had to wait for 6 months before they were available..
Black and has feather on her legs.. Hoping she is a hen.. Only about a week old..

So today is my sons 5th birthday. Earlier this afternoon I told my girls while they were out around the yard they had better lay an egg for his birthday else one of Em was soup. Lo and behold, I go out to the coop just now and there's the most perfect little egg right in the middle of the run floor! :D

Oh no way.. That is great.. We got our first egg on Christmas

hi all. i been feeling a little off today so i cancelled all my activities and sat down to catch up on chicken stuff.
mama hen chris, your grandson has gotten so big! he's adorable in there with the chickens. my son likes to pick them up every chance he gets, but right now the flies bug him so he doesnt spend much time outside *roll eyes*
azkat, seems like last year in the easter hatchalong there was someone from california working on purple eggs. thats not too far away for shipped eggs if she succeeded. i would love purple myself, that would be so awesome. i'll look into some of those older posts and see what i can come up with. i hope she didnt change her avie, thats how i recognize people!
lady koda - your garden makes me see a little green monster. it sure is beautiful - i wish i had the space and motivation to accomplish even a quarter of that!
mikey d - wow nice to see you around again
mahonri - wish i could help with your icelandics but i have an aloha project taking up my backyard. i hope you find them a great home.
after 20 pages i forget half of what i read and want to comment on, sorry if i missed anything.
have a great week everyone, i'll be around. still cant wait til school is out. i have the countdown on my whiteboard and a few people told me today it was wrong, sigh, had to add a day...

oh, to whoever wanted to hatch in a school in tucson. once you get the word out to fellow teachers that you are doing it they all want to as well. or they will let you do the work and borrow the chicks, thats how its been working at the school i loan my incubator to. its all great fun tho, everyone is happy. i wish all schools incorporated it, some kids have never seen a real chicken outside a zoo.
omg that reminds me. my daughter walked home with a boy from her class today and they were talking chicken. he had never seen a fresh egg before so she asked if she could give him one. long story short the egg is smashed in the road in front of my house now, and he better not be walking her home any time soon...

So Button and Sasha are still getting pecked and harassesd quite a bit, but they are getting food and water. They have to work for the food though because the older girls get pissy about it and chase them off no matter how many piles of treats I lay out.
I am concerned about Button. I think she's gotten beat on hard. She's moving around like an old man with constipation. She has no visible injuries though and she knows she safer when I'm in there so she hangs by me. Unfortunately, I'm only in there 1/2 hour or so a day.
There are no issues in the coop. All the girls are calm inside, although Button can't get up to any of the roosts so she cries for a while.

How egg-citing!!! What a great birthday gift! Do you know if it was from your Orpingtons or the Reds?

Thank you mama hen! I am pretty sure is was from one of my reds. One of the smaller ones too. She was spending a lot of time in the nest box yesterday and the day before. She is also the one who started squatting first. I thought it was funny after all her nesting she laid it right the the middle of the run where I would see it right away! I am so happy! I was beginning to think I had defective hens..... lol
