Arizona Chickens

dog update: i gave her pill about 40 minutes ago and already see improvement. the large bumps have subsided but her jowls are still swollen. she's not scratching as much tho and i think she appreciates that.
thanks for the info, oh, no bleeding salivating or craziness. was just the puffy face and itching, overall misery.

a non-chicken related question.
i know many of us are also dog owners: i have 2 dogs, and am currently dog sitting for a friend of mine while she is in spain. spain is 8 hours ahead of us and she is not answering her phone since she's in bed. a n y w a y. when i got home there was a note from my daughter saying dog didnt eat breakfast, and another from husband saying dog didnt eat lunch. i took one look at her and noticed her face is swollen and she has bumps on her head. i thought maybe she got into an ant hill or bit by a bee. she cant tell me what happened. and we only feed her the food her mommy brought.
so, my question is. would you think it would be safe to give her benadryl? she isnt having difficulty breathing so i'm not concerned enough to pay the $100+ in vet fees. she just keeps rubbing her poor face on my jeans. she's so itchy.
Our Vet always has us give Benadryl also...... the last time our schnauzer swelled up like that it was from a scorpion. It took several days for the swelling around her face and neck to go down even with the meds.

Yes, Benadryl is fine to give to dogs.  I give it to my dogs whenever they eat too many bees (I swear, they love the "zing" they get from the sting).  Follow the weight guidelines, but in my experience, even if you overdose by a bit, you'll just get a super sleepy pup.  She's not bleeding from the bumps, excessively salivating, or acting really off is she?  Those are the symptoms my dogs have had after rattlesnake bites, and warranted emergency vet visits which were $$$$.

Oh very nice to hear

Well, we put Sommer's chicks and my broilers out in the small coop for a few hours tonight. At first, they were freezing cold and huddled in the corner. It was like a bunch of linebackers moving a brick wall!

Just who do some of these legs belong to? Did someone fumble the worm? I got it! No, it's mine!

We added the heat lamp and turned it on. They have started enjoying the freedom. Eating, drinking and scratching... Sounds like a bunch of old men!

You know, they remind me of Robin with the masked eyes. I know he wasn't brown, but still... The wing feathers look like they are coming in nicely.

I just got back from cooping in birds at the Pima County Fair. I hope a bunch of you have a chance to go and check out the birds! The Open show runs through Sunday. Birds will be released at 6 pm Sunday.

I've never gone to the Fair. I've only lived here for 30+ years, maybe I should go sometime. Won't happen this year. I'm working six days a week right now and have a lot of chores to handle on my one day off. Oh well.
