The other girls don't pick on her much anymore. She eats and drinks and poops plenty. She's 9-10 weeks and still peeps like a chick. Is that odd?

No, our girls did not start to make real chicken noises till like 4-5 months.. I would not worry to much.. Shoot if all she can not do is perch
than I would leaver her be.. Do you think she is in pain?

Thank you all for the kind words! We're still in the hospital until Sunday. Sophia Marie is very happy and healthy!

All 8 of my broody's eggs hatched. But one was later than the others. The broody had left the nest already to care for the others. The last one took a very long time to hatch and broody attacked it. My husband tried to get there in time but he said she was fast and was killing it, so he culled it. She had already injured it too badly. My kids were fine with it. It's amazing how they understood. So, I have 7 chicks! I was pleased with the 100% hatch, even though one had to be culled.

Petra, I think I've known you now through two births! Congrats on the gorgeous little girl!. My #5 son turned 16 on the 25th. Hard to believe that he is that old and tonight he is on his first date for Prom. Tomorrow it will be coop cleaning day and lawn mowing day. Since the 16 year old and his brother won't be home until at least 1AM, I imagine I'll be doing all of the honors, but hey, it was his 16th birthday. I'm just hoping that I can get some sleep! I had one of my polish that hatched in Nov. lay her first egg today, so this week, 3 first time eggs! Just in time as I'm missing those Icelandic eggs!

I glad to hear that Sophia Marie is doing well. How much dose she weigh? :hugs :love

It is interesting, rejection of a late chick. I, being new, will remember in the future, if I have a broody hen hatch eggs, one is late but viable, to remove the eggs until it hatches, and not give it back to the mother without supervision, to see how she acts.

Clare, being #1 has to keep a close eye on progress of her new run. The run door has to meet her standards.

she insists that there must be a chicken run door for her and the girls in the the giant door. Being able to free range is important, as well as a safe covered yard.
