My dog eats chicken poo like I eat chocolate.


Mmmmm tasty!

This is why I think I need a dog. To clean the yard of chicken poo. 

Oh, wait... it goes in small and comes out BIGGER and no one will eat the big stuff so I will have to clean that up...  and I can't put the dog poo in the garden... and my feed bill is already pretty hefty.  Maybe I won't get a dog.  But I can dream of a chicken-poo eating assistant of some sort, can't I?

My grandmother B. (my moms mom) did. She put it in the compost pile. Our dog gave her a gift, my brother had to clean it up, was told to throw it on the compost pile. "But? Grandmother? Dog poo?" She in formed me it was nothing but fertilizer, and with our Goldy she know what went in her, so she knows good stuff came out. You use, cow, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and the list goes on anything that poos is nothing but fertilizer once it is composted. Unless you do not give your dog good food. But she was born in the 1800's, a lot of things were different then.

hello Arizonans! So I built myself a cooler incubator and I wasn't expecting it to work as the temperatures were just not staying right, but I put a bunch of eggs in it to test it anyways. Now I have 13 baby chickens that I can't do anything with lol. Is anyone interested? I'm in Tucson.
half of them are backyard mixes that I got from a lady for free, as test eggs, right now they are allYellow, and the other half are blue laced red wyandottes that were extras from a batch of eggs I ordered. They are supposed to be really good quality.

I dearly would like a blue laced red Wyandotte, I will very happily drive down and pick them up and deliver then, with help on the gas. On that stretch og I-10 when congested I get about 23 to 26 miles per gal. At best 31 mpg. If I am going to get them I would like to do it Monday. PM me, also if I am making the trip, and exchanges or other eggs or chicks from or to Tucson BYC members, why not. If I go mind as well make a day of it. Members that have pullets or Roos along the way that need to get to Tucson or Phoenix, mind as well. I'm at your service. I really would like at lest one, I have more chicks coming, it is a good time for me. I should have the run finished and the coop ready to move in by the time they can join my flock.

I can wait until Tuesday but not later then Friday. I have asked my daughter if she could help me clean my house. I am very disorganized, and have problems getting over whelmed when faced with house labor.

i hope the mint takes off in my flowerbed, 2 out of 5 look like they shriveled up and died, but a 3rd one looked similar and bounced back so i'm just going to keep them in there. maybe they will root or send runners or something. i also read that mint helps with the fly problem, but i dont notice a change. we have more flies this summer than last, they seem to be more drawn to the water fountain than to the chicken coop and are pooping all over the rocks by my pond.
what are flies good for? i have no rotting flesh in my yard, shoo flies dont bother us!
we made some good progress on the coop today, we have 2 side runs and a lower run done. today we mostly worked on the coop condo. the roof took a while, i wanted a pitched roof, DH wanted a sloped roof. a few times he told me we're not archeologists! i know he was teasing me (about not being architects) but i wanted to punch him anyway!! LOL he's such a brat. it was a long but pretty fun day.
i did think about taking progress pictures but never got my phone out, i'm sure i'll regret that down the line.

We've been working solid yesterday and today. With just my husband and I working alone, it's just been slow going and piecemeal. But I've really been making a push to get it finished this weekend. We had a little help from one of my friends yesterday. And then thankfully our neighbor came over today and put it a few hours work. So much takes so long that you wouldn't think takes so long. But we're getting there. Fingers crossed we finish this weekend! I think it about 50/50 at this point...

Believe it or not, there are 15 chicks under this big broody plus some eggs that she is sitting tight on!!!

LOL In other news today... received a frantic phone call from my mother-in-law - they got hit by an 18-wheeler on the I-40 today while just trying to take a day trip to Seligman. Thankfully they survived. Another lady in front of them was air-evacuated and they didn't think she was going to make it. They were rushed to Flagstaff Medical Center and after having their car totaled, spinning around several times after getting hit, she was released tonight and my father-in-law may be released tomorrow. So scary! But so glad they aren't hurt worse. The DPS officer said that if the truck hadn't hit them, thereby stopping the truck, it would have killed them all. The lady who was air-evacuated was from an accident that happened in front of them just minutes before and all the officers were in the street helping that accident before the next one happened. Looong day - I just got home from taking care of all their animals - and putting their chickens to bed. Good-night!

Thereby not plowing into the EMS and the first accident. I drove for many years. Experienced drivers and it seems the best drivers are quitting driving. It is complicated. Thank god they are all right, they are lucky. I will give thanks tonight and that they have a speedy recovery.

That is heart stopping. Let me get this straight, there was an accident in front of you in-laws. A 18 wheeler could not stop in time. Ran into your in-laws. Thereby not plowing into the EMS and the first accident.
I drove for many years. Experienced drivers and it seems the best drivers are quitting driving. It is complicated. Thank god they are all right, they are lucky. I will give thanks tonight and that they have a speedy recovery.

Yes - you are correct. The truck driver was very cooperative - although they did confiscate his log book and says there seem to be issues with it, which isn't looking good for him. We're just glad everyone is alive (except I don't know about the woman in the first accident). I will be busy the next few days helping them out with housework, their animals, etc. while they take some time to recover. We almost lost Dad a couple months ago with pulmonary embolisms resulting from prostate cancer surgery but he pulled through. They were just out enjoying some time together celebrating life and the fact that he was still alive and they could still be together. We don't know what the plan is in all of this but God knows. It makes them feel better that they were the reason the truck stopped and didn't end up killing everyone with the trailer sweeping across the interstate.
Their rooster is a stinker though! It took me 1/2 hour to get him locked up in the coop. He came flying out at 9p.m. last night ready to attack me in the dark! I had to let him attack my leg through the gate for a couple minutes then quickly grabbed him up and carried him in and closed the door real fast. I'm so glad I have a sweet rooster - although he might do the same thing if it was a stranger??

Thanks for this idea Madd - I will be using it when the time comes. I am watching the girls daily for heat stress. So far our EE is the only one obviously panting. She hangs out in the shade more than the other two. The frozen watermelon I learned about on here so far makes the difference for her. I have two of those bendy things in my shed and now I know where I will use them.

The nozzles are supposed to be 1/2 gal/hr. If I turn it on before I go to work and off when the sun drops a bit, that will be around 10-11 hours/day. So, appx 10 gal/day. Not too bad overall if it helps them out over the late May to early July hump. My run is almost totally shaded until late afternoon. I suppose I could set up a timer to turn on the mister around noonish.
