Arizona Chickens

since i have cut out corn and all corn products, i HAVE seen a decrease in my headaches. i haven't woken up with a huge headache for about 6 days in a row. i also cut out gluten and quite a few other foods as well. it is terribly difficult to maintain and oh so humdrum, but i honestly feel better. :clap  i can definately tell within 30minutes of eating something with corn in it, my eyes itch, nose runs and start sneezing. i wake up the next day looking like i stuck my head in a hive.

Have you tried "Certified 100% Organic" corn?  Supposedly, under U.S.D.A. standards, they can not label anything 100% organic if it has been genetically altered or fed anything genetically altered.  I've heard that these genetically engineered versions, especially corn, are what are causing quite a few of our current health problems.  The Institute of Responsible Technology has several studies that have shown direct links, although I hear the statements on their website exaggerate the actual studies.  You'd have to do some digging to get to and read the studies themselves.  As with everything medical related, it's really hard to remove the bias, but if you dig hard enough...

I would also recommend trying to get the Alcat test done.  It is a simple blood test that will tell you which of several hundred different foods you are intolerant of.  There is a difference between intolerant and allergic, but most people don't realize it.  My daughter, for instance, can not have dairy products.  It sends her into a severe form of a depression.  She will break down and cry at the smallest little thing.  We had kept her off milk for about a month and decided to test it.  We gave her regular servings of dairy for two days.  The third day, I asked her to get me a glass of water and she collapsed on the floor crying, but she's couldn't tell me why.  Since then, we do our best to keep her off dairy, but it's so hard.  I feel your pain and frustration.  It's expensive, but absolutely well worth it.

On Netfex there are moves on FRANKEN FOODS, as they are called. Wheat is another one that is not the same as 50 years ago. The body dose not metabolize it the same, the rise in wheat allergies. FORKS OVER KNIVES and FOOD MATTERS are two to start.

I wonder if she would have the same reaction from raw milk? We don't use pasteurized milk anymore, only raw. There is a dairy in Casa Grande that sells it, "Save Your Dairy".

Isn't it amazing how that works? Over 70% of "lactose intolerant" people can drink raw milk in moderation without ill effects. I have a coworker who proved that. She has been drinking the raw milk for about two months with great results.

In terms of my daughter, the raw milk had the same effect on her as processed milk. We've been using Save Your Dairy's Guardian Angel program for almost a year and love it. I started getting it for our baby when she was about six months old, when my wife's supply decreased. I doubt I can ever go back.

Most of the world's people do not drink milk, they have a high lactose intolerant s. I forgot the nationality s that drink milk, and are seldom lactose intolerant. I would like to find raw milk. I like home made cottage cheese, also I'm a big milk drinker. Although I like goats milk even more. When/if I am able to move out of the city and have a couple of acres I plan on getting goats or a Dextor Milk Cow.

they give 1-1/2 gal. A day on average. They max out at 1,000 # would dress out nicely a years worth of meat. (After freshening if a bullock).

Contact Save Your Dairy and ask about their delivery program. Just like the co-op, they drop off to one person in your area and you pick up at a designated time. It is $10 a gallon, but worth every penny.

Oy, the joys of a teething baby. Her molars are coming in and tonight is not a good night!

Could it be they are afraid of the dark?  Have they had a light (or even ambient light) inside?  Mine were afraid of the dark and was part of the hard part going into the coop overnight.  I'm a sucker, I gave them a night light.

They sleep in my sons room in their box now with no light or heat just a blankie over half the box that some of them snuggle in. So funny to hear the purring once the box is inside and they go right to sleep and sleep all night

I'm sure you are right. Hickmans Eggs probably pays $13.00 per 100#, but I do not think it comes in bags. In fact maybe less, wholesale and 20 ton at a time one item. $33.00 for 50# sound about right. I've been buying quantity for years to bring down prices. When I had my budgies I bought 50# to # 100# sacks of seed, and mixed it myself. But I only have 12 pullets and 2 Roos, if I did that now it will go bad before I used it all,
That is about average for a small quantity of organic. The co-op is a little cheaper, but your do have to buy 2 months worth at a time. We just picked up an order so the next one won't be until the end of August.

Alright, last night I bought some of the Reflectix material and I'll spend Sunday morning taking the coop/run roof off to line it. I'm hopeful that will help decrease SOME of the heat stress, even if it's only 5 degrees.

On thing that has helped with the heat in the late afternoon--I hung up an old towel on the run's human door. When I come home from work, about 5:30ish, I spray the towel down. The towel adds shade, and with a little of the afternoon breeze and the wet towel, I've been in the run with the chickens and literally felt the cooling down effect from the towel swap cooler. The cooler breeze goes right into the coop...since the towel has been haning up, the chickens aren't panting at 7pm anymore. Though it hasn't been as hot as it was this past weekend, perhaps it's all wishful thinking on my part.

I'll definitely buy from the Tucson Co-op next time.

Oh, I also started a fermenting bucket last night. Smells like wet chicken feed this morning!

My mom was born in 1916, we have her baby book. There are advertising for a teething medication made from the poppy

and other interesting stuff. No problems with fussy baby's back then, just get them stoned. How things have changed.

Oh yeah, opium would probably work GREAT for a teething baby! Hahaha! (seriously would have considered something like that just to get my daughter to sleep during her first 2 years of life....).

They have a place to retreat that is 100% shaded and lots of ventilation. That's about the best I can do with all the birds I have. Some of them are just not going to make it in this climate, that is a fact. She was 1/2 Orloff, and the Orloff breed was developed for COLD climates...haven't lost an Orloff yet, though, knock on wood. My poultry house is long ends north and south with pens on the east and west sides of a central hallway. I think the west side birds have a tougher time, and that's where this one was. The pure Orloffs are on the east side.

I'm sorry for the loss. It's quite disconcerting, considering you're one of the experts on here and you've already lost one, possibly two by now. I do take comfort knowing it was half a cold-hearty bread, though. I think it makes sense that the east side Orloffs would be ok. The sun is warming up the entire poultry house all day, and then does an extra job of baking the west side in the afternoon and early evening. The west side of my house is always hottest, with the bedroom on the southwest corner being the absolute worst.

Knowing the size of your setup, from your description, maybe a large swamp cooler would be a better idea than the misters? I would be higher in electricity costs, but I would think it would be better overall compared to the misters.
