Arizona Chickens

2 day old baby BCM and her 4 mamas. They all call her to eat and baby has set under every one of them. Very cute.

Those silkies are really cute little aliens ;-) I have a silkie and two frizzles in a flock I"m fostering while the city council makes a decision on an ordinance allowing chickens inside the city limits. They are growing on me, along with the little roo I got when I bought a silkie pullet from City Farms. That boy is still stand offish with me, but the girl is real sweetheart.

Now for the funny. The foster silkie has gone broody and wants to sit in the nest box 24/7 even when there are not eggs in there. My muscovy duck, who was raised in that coop has hopped the fence so she can use the nest box. I went to get eggs at dusk tonight and the two of them were in there squabbling over the space. The silkie is like a tenth the size of the duck but she was pecking the duck if she tried to take up any more space! I have a feeling I am going to have to build a silkie palace.

MHC: just to adorable.
My girls are now running I n 3 little clicks, the chicks have to work hard to keep togather. The older girls just leaves them alone when in mass. But a lone chick is in danger. I sold Bon, the Alpha, Lucy (RIR) moves up, the younger girls that I got in May has 2 that are peckish, Tipsy (production red) & Mary (BO), the other 2 both Bard Rocks ( 1 Plymouth & 1 Partridge) seem not to care when the chicks are under foot. It is so much fun watching the dynamics of the chicken world. I'm going to have to figure out how to post on YouTub videos.

In my brooder I have one short wall, when a chick makes it over I figure its old enough. I do not know if I posted pics of the newest 2, they are so noisy, they get so upset when everyone leaves to forage. At this point they have been every place in the yard they can pet to. They also know safe Bolt-To places. Syliva, being the oldest seems to be their leader, dispit being very passive. I wish I know if my girls by breed really represents the typical personality of each bread.

I lost two this s summer I recommend a fan with small misting system for them I'm setting one up for them, next summer nbow its cooling off . We are in Phx/ Glendale actually

I am becoming increasingly discouraged in people and their lack of ability or knowledge to raise animals. it has made me really think twice about selling anything anymore. it is very upsetting to sell an animal or animals only to discover that the day after it had some accidental death. I put a lot of effort and money into them, heartbreaking to send them off to their death. think I would rather just keep what I have or they only go to people that I know very well.

I think I know why their are breeders that do not sell anything. :(    some just ruin it for everyone else.

Yes we know, we lost a few to people that took our chickens, so sorry girl ;(

I think we're really close to our first egg. My BSL has had the very red large comb and wattles for a while and has been squatting for about a week. The nest boxes show signs someone has been exploring them. Today the girls have been spending a lot of time in the coop even though it's cooler, sunny, breezy, and beautiful outside. Normally they spend the days in the bushes in the shade. I can't see any reason for them to be hanging out in the coop unless Ony went in to check out the boxes again and since they go everywhere together the others followed her. I'm hoping later today or tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

So nothing today.... Guess they were hanging out in the coop to taunt me. Maybe tomorrow will be the day.

The anticipation is fun. I think someone on here has a live feed in their coop.. Does anyone know or remember who?
