Arizona Chickens

Before I head out on my hike.

Does everyone keep strictly to the 10ft per chicken in the run 4ft per in the coop? Our coop is big enough to have 10-11 chickens but our run only 6-7. Since the girls are primarily free range during the day would keeping 10 with a run that size be horrible to do to them? Our next batch of chicks will only be 3 birds but I know down the line I'll want another small batch. Will I have to convince my bf to let me build on to the run before I go past the 7 bird mark?

My coop is 32sqft and my run is 128sqft for 8 birds. They have plenty of room. Give them enough roosts and they will find their comfy place.

I don't wait for my husband. If I did that I wouldn't have my chickens. I just moved fencing to create a much bigger run for the ducks and chickens. We have material to build the kids an new shelter to accommodate a lot more chickie chicks. I can't help myself, I'm obsessed. I keep telling the kids and grand kids that it is all for them but who the hell am I kidding. I'VE GONE MAD, MAD I TELL YA!!! I can't wait to go pick out some more with my grand children. They are their chickens you know. LMAO, The parents buy them and I take care of them. Works for me.

My ducks have like 5 times the room they had before they just don't know it and are not in the slightest interested in exploring. They like their little corner of the world. It works for them. As long as someone comes to play water games in the mornings they are content. Yes, my dogs and the ducks have their morning water play. They let me know if I skip it. They are creatures of habit and they don't care what the weather is like. They want their water play.

Mostly Easter Egger mix's as for now.. 2barred rocks.. 1 Buff Orpington
Golden lakenvelder, buff brahma, BCM, De' ulce Millie Fluer.. I did spell
the last one wrong.. She is so beautiful her name is Clair.. Hope to have
some of you chicken folk over for roasted marshmallow's by the fire..
I like visiting to see how other flocks are living.. I get ideas from the coop
Fourm as well..

I will get a picture of my coop today. We leave it open most nights & they go in/out as they please. They free range all day (whole backyard is theirs).

I was short on time when I started my flock so I hired a man from Santan Valley to build it for me. Cost me $350 but it was custom & build on site. It measures 8'x4' and is 5' tall. They have 6 nesting box built in, and 2 8' perches. Plus we put a cat cubby in (cats hated it) and its the only place Calico lays her eggs!

Nobody so far is close enough and now my first post is buried.

I'm looking to TRADE my two Socilian Buttercups (female, about 4 months old) for 2 similarly aged Pullets or Hens who lay larger size eggs. I'd love Marans or RIRs, BOs or even two more EEs.

To reiterate, I plan to use my eggs primarily for baking and since the eggs from the Buttercups will be smaller than those from my Easter Eggers (they are smaller than I was expecting) they wouldn't be of great use to me.

I live in North Phx. So far only some really fat away folks have replied.

Here's hoping!

My pack was is so out dated but will work for our teenagers.. If I did not have
a tent I would sleep in our travel hamic.. No ground for me.. Getting to old..
Our westfalia camper just blew a hose or pump last week.. So if we could get that
fixed I would go camping A.S.A.P.. Now that it is perfect there in Tucson.. I hope to
get into the mechanic soon. Our son is doing the E.V.I.T. Program so if the instructor
wants to give the pancake motor a try, it might take a bit longer.. Hope to know by
the following week..

We are planning a camping trip this weekend too! My sons 13th birthday & he wants to go camping at Cattail Cove in LHC. We depart Friday morning before sunrise!!

Hope your trip is awesome Maddbaggins!

I would be willing to trade 1 of girls for 1 of yours. How about an Aracana for blue/ green eggs? She was hatched the beginning of July. Been fed Purina chick started & free ranges all day. Also has been handled daily by kids! I could meet you at Sunset Point since I live by Prescott. Let me know.

YAYYYYYY!!!!! Yes I DID make an awesome collage out of the 1541789 pics I took of an egg. It came out a little messy but for a first egg it was a decent size and perfect shape and a beautiful pinkish light brown with lots of white speckling. I think I'm going to blow it out and preserve it.
