Can we all be CRAAAZY ! That is why I always loved Halloween !

Chicken Feat Lucy is definetly a Polish Cross breed but it would be almost impossible to say which cross. Squawk look like a blue laced red Wyandotte. The double lacing is called pencile or something like that. She is pretty.
You are probably right about Lucy being a cross. Not a Barnvelder as some one stated due to the Rose comb but I sure like that way she looks. Please let us know what her eggs look like ?

WoW!!!! A Barnevelder! I've never heard of that breed let alone pronounce Barnevelder, and after a little research I belive you are correct! She's very glossy and lays medium light brown eggs and I've found tons of photos just like her. Thanks so much!

Ya learn something everyday. ;)

Lucy is a different story. I think she's too big and too feathered to have silkie in her. She's not furry in any way like a silkie and she acts like and hangs with the other Polish. Whatever she is she's a nice chicken, quiet, calm, and a little dittzie like a polish. She reminds us of Lucille Ball with that red top.

This site is great. :D

Lucy looks a lot like my full polish hen, Calico. She is a buff laced polish in my opinion. Here's a couple pix of my girl.

I suggested Barnvelder because her wattles were very small and so I assumed from the picture angle that her comb just wasn't developed yet. If she has a rose comb then I take back my Barnvelder suggestion.

So once a week Onyxia and Phillie lay at the same time. Onyxia lays every day around 10am and Phillie is on about a 28 hour rotation until she lays at like 3-4pm then she'll skip the next day. Onyxia claimed the left next box. If Phil goes in to lay earlier than Ony the day they lay at approx. the same time Ony puts up a fit. Today Phillie was in the right box. Ony came in and flipped out squawking for 10 mins. Phillie got up and moved to the left box, Ony continued to flip out. After almost 20 minutes of Ony being crazy loud she finally decided to go into the right box. After a few minutes she decided it just wasn't working and started flipping out again. At this point i had to intervene and stood in there while she settled down again. I don't want to make my neighbors upset if this happens once a week for 1/2 hour. That can get really annoying and with 2 more girls getting close to laying Ony might find her box is occupied more than she likes.

I'm considering putting a 3rd nest box on the floor. A milk crate with a curtain or something. Since the 3rd box will be on a different level than the other 2 could that help with the problem or is Ony likely to put up a fit when any other chicken is in there laying no matter where in the coop they're nesting? I just really don't want the neighbors to complain to anyone about our birds. We're allowed to have them but we still have to follow noise ordinance laws just like if we had a loud barking dog.

I had accidentally made a loud bang while carrying things near the coop and it scared all the girls out of the coop. Phil and Ony went back in to try laying again shortly after. Ony went in first and got her left box and all was well even after Phil came in to join her in the other box. If she starts the hissy fit again in the future is ok take Phillie out of the box and let Ony get situated and then let Phillie back in after Ony has herself settled? It seemed to work this time but if it's bad for them to have to "hold it" like that I don't want to intentionally do it.

Hey peoples!

Cleaned out the coop and run again this morning. It's about a once a month deal. It never smells bad unless wet. Of course, as soon as I clean out the coop, all the girls have to go inside to inspect.

I've been riding my mountain bike to work a couple days a week. It's all good, but a mountain bike is really not designed for street riding. The gearing and rolling resistance are all wrong. To the wifes chagrin, I bought a road bike. I scored a 2013 model 25% off because they are trying to clear them out. It's a good match to my black GT mountain bike.
