Arizona Chickens

So the girls decided to protest yesterday and not 1 of the 3 laid. The EE has only laid 2 so far skipping a day in between and so she has a pass but the other 2 are in trouble. They're normally very consistent. Typically they don't skip a day unless they lay very late the day before and they'll lay up until 4pm usually. they both laid by noon on Monday but yesterday zip zilch nada. I just hope they didn't sneak off to a hiding place to lay them. Maybe it being a darker cloudier day yesterday threw them off.

I'm curious how old Eleanor was when she first laid. I have an EE who looks very similar. She is a little over 7 months, and still no egg. Lots of good indicators (been very vocal for the past 2 or 3 weeks, comb getting darker, spending time sitting in the nest box, etc.), but still no egg.

I know you weren't asking me, Stynch, but I have an EE that looks like Eleanor--she started laying at 26-27 weeks, I think. I should have marked it down! Sounds like your bird is due any day now!!

Stynch I am told I have an Ameraucana but honestly don't know if it is that or an EE. Her eggs are nice and blue. She did start laying a week later than my other two birds at just over 6 months. I think it was around 28 weeks. I can tell you that she started checking out the nesting box and was definitely "talking" more right before you laid her first egg. So I am guessing you will have an egg at anytime.

Thanks for the encouragement! We are keeping a watchful eye!!! She has a good teacher - Blackie (my avatar) has now laid 10 eggs in 11 days, and she's in the nest right now, just like clockwork!!

She just started laying in the past week, her first egg was the 9th, she was almost 26 weeks.

I have three chicks from Redrocketrooster, a Welsummer, a black Orpington, and a Splash Orpington. The orpingtons are girls, I believe, but Welsummer is most likely a boy. What of you all think? He is 2 months old. And anyone interested in a well-bred Welsummer cockerel?

I'd say most definitely a boy, black chest and large comb. Sorry, wish I could take him but no roosters for me either.

I am pretty new only having chickens for about 7 months but that looks like a boy to me. At 2 months old my chicks were about 1/2 that size and the comb is way too big to be a girl in my opinion. But again I am new.

Flower is visiting me as you know, we processed Whinny to night and I am so glad we did. She has been eating but just hasn't been lookibg very good, and she was so skinny. She hadn't laid an egg for abou 8 months. Her abdomen was squishy and soft. When we started to make the first cut around her vent she bust a yellow salfer grean tinted liquid. And several od chucks od sickly brown geenesh tinted lumps fell out. She had rotting eggs in her. She may have been suffering for months. She is at lest 1-1/2 years old, maybe older.

Now. I am worried about my sweet Clair. She is a pet, now a hen, and has yet to lay an egg. She looks good, so I will just keep an even clobber eye on her.

Oh boy girls, wow.. Condolence from our family..
