Arizona Chickens

I am getting egg anxious. My polish laid for about 3 weeks but now nothing! I see a few red combs but still no egg!! The roosters are doing their jobs....all day long!!

My chicks are doing great. I let them take over the coop while the flock was free ranging & it was hilarious to watch them flutter around & bump each other. The roosters were not happy with them being in 'their' coop.

Yawn...good night folks!

That is awesome! The first egg from each girl is always be best in my opinion!

Thanks! We now have 3 eggs from her in 3 days! Didn't think we'd get one today as it was almost dark and nothing yet. My daughter went and checked one more time before completely dark and it was finally there. Funny, she was acting crazy for a couple of hours, pacing back and forth, climbing in and out of the nesting boxes, jumping on top and then back down again and "yelling" constantly! It seemed to take her quite a while to get that egg out today.

I *really* wanted to go on the tour. But it just doesn't make sense to drive from San Tan Valley to Phoenix just to get a map to see the East Valley coops.

For anyone interested, I am putting together an order for McMurray's Hatchery. I'm getting some turkeys. Minimum order is 15, so I'd love others to join in. The delivery should be in early April. Message me if you are interested.

I am very tempted. I need to do more research though I don't think I'm quite ready. When do you have to order by?

I am thinking in two or three weeks. How about the 15th of December? I have to finish discussing with my wife how many we are getting and why. She gave me the stink eye at my plan last night. She thinks it is too many.

I was thinking about three broad breasted bronze for the 2014 season, since you process them at about six months. Then, I'd like three heritage breeds for the 2015 season since they are harvested between 12 and 18 months. Finally, two heritage hens and a tom for breeding and subsequent years.

our1stfarm, LOVE the coop! it's beautiful! It's a similar size as mine, and sadly...so sadly, no, it doesn't hold up to chicken math! You, like me, may have built the perfect coop...except I didn't account for the crack-like addicting powers of chickens.

I'll be selling heritage turkeys next year and I don't have a minimum if picked up here. And no shipping stress on the poults. I have a lot of varieties. Buy local!

I sent an email a couple days before the tour asking if the tix were bought online if there was more than one pick-up/check-in location and never got a reply. It would be nice if they had a couple spots where you could pick up the map in each area of the valley.

kpgoldstar, your chicks look nice and healthy to me! I don't think they look too fat, but I'm no expert!

I've been thinking my chickens are getting a bit obese. Between trying to get the fall garden and rye grass started, they have very limited time outside of the run. But I dunno, maybe they are just filling out and are as healthy as can be.
