Arizona Chickens

I don't remember now; was there someone here that has done caponizing? Looking for someone to help us learn! I'm brave enough to try with just the info I have found here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/675898/graphic-pics-of-my-day-learning-to-caponize but would really rather not kill too many in the learning process.

Haven't done it but I'm fixing to try once I get enough birds. I've been following that thread since it started. I've got the tools. But I don't have any chicks to caponize yet. I wanted to practice on dead birds first, but I haven't had any of those either.

Maybe we could get together for a practice run? I'm in Tucson. We were talking at the poultry show in November, but I didn't realize it was you until the show was over. Duh...

Whoa, that must have been fun! Did you guide in the NM or UT stretch? Just below Navajo Dam near the NM/CO border is where we go to fish the San Juan. We call it the "Disneyworld" of fly-fishing, a few days there will leave you with a grin on your face for weeks. Years ago while traveling up to MT and WY on a fishing trip we stopped in the middle of the night at Goosenecks State Park in UT. We parked the camper and set it up in the parking lot in the dark and woke up in the morning to one of the most surprising and stunning views of the San Juan. (not my picture):
I worked the Utah section. Mainly from Bluff to Mexican hat. I've also been on the upper stretch with archaeologists to map the ruins up there. and I've worked the lower canyon, through the goosnecks all the way to the Lake. It was quite a job. LOTS of ruins, and since archaeology is a hobby of mine, I had the time of my life. Hard work, but really great to be out there every day and night.

Last night we were just hanging out with the family and Squeekyballs (aka, Tofu, TucsonTofu, and TT!) popped over with her son for a visit and ended up staying a few hours.  Folks that have been around on this thread for a couple years (or read the whole thing) will remember her.  We had such a great time laughing and laughing.  That girl is hilarious!  She said to say hello to everyone on the thread.  :frow

Tell her hi for me! I miss her posts!

Anybody else on here enjoy having hummingbirds around, besides me? If you have hummingbird feeders set up, have you ever had problems with bees taking over the feeders and leaving no room for the hummers to drink from? How do you solve this problem? I thought bees were supposed to be out pollinating flowers, not robbing my hummingbird feeder on a daily basis. The problem seems to have become worse lately, as I never had this issue on a regular basis prior to the last few months.

I have been to both Glendale and Surprise Pratts and was disappointed by both of them. They have too many of different kinds and ages together in their big tubs and there is a real pecking problem.
There were also some dead or nearly dead chicks as well. Not to mention that they let every kid handle and drop them. I don't want chicks that have been so terribly handled. I have never seen the chicks out of water or feed at Stockmans and their chicks never stay there more than a few days so each shipment appears to be fresh and new. You never know what kind they will have but the variety changes weekly. I hope they have BO there next week. I loved my little Orpy Annie so much that I have to get some more of the golden beauties.
