Arizona Chickens

In the Prescott area Cal Ranch has chicks right now and then Olsen's grain, both in Prescott and Chino Valley, will get chicks in at the end of March.  Cal Ranch seems to be the only place right now that has chicks.  I just purchased some buff orpingtons and black sex link chicks.

Thanks, Prescott is a bit far...I'm in Scottsdale! :D

Down here in the Show Low area there are quite a few places from which to get chicks already. There is a place called Pats Place near the Y of hwy.60 and hwy.61. Cal ranch supply and Tractor Supply and I'm betting a few others as well.

Westsidechicken....it is definantly a gamefowl hen of some sort. However you cannot definatively say whatt breed. She looks harold brown yes but also looks like some oakgrove hatch or roundhead orrrrr.....color means nothing in the gamefowl world really. I say this to make a point from her head and comb station etc. She looks to have an asil influence which are a breed of asian gamefowl. Basically id just say she's gamefowl. Nice hen though. They make great mamas and protectors. Nice rescue.

Arn not Asil Game fowl in the same classification as the Mayla Game fowl? A hard feathered bird? She may have escaped from a breading facility for fighting cocks. She may not be pure breed. If she is she will be a fine and protective mother hen. She is probably happy to find a good home.

It appears that she may have beed breeding. I am very new, it has. recently been pointed out to me some signs of breeding activity. The posable missing feathers at the base of her tail. I would like to be corrected if I am wrong, only way I will learn.

Yes they are a hardfeather breed. Shamos...tuzos....malay....asil...brazilian...etc. all game breeds....actually cornish were originally gamebirds. As for her escaping yes that's very likely but not ness. For fighting purposes iv raised gamebirds all my life never fought at all its a hobby and preservation thing I know alotttt people are the same. But in phoenix area you never know. The tail feathers look good for that bird. Most american games and their grades will have that cottony tuft. And id bet me teeth she solid gamefowl just a blended breeding.

Lorenzo is looking for a group of girls to court. He will be 6 months old on the 21st. He is a sweet boy. I got him as an egg from Christie Davis. on Arizona Backyard Farmers (FB) I do not know what breeder she got her eggs from but I am told his bloodlines go back to France. I am asking $25. Please no stew pot for him.

Pm me if you are interested. Thanks

Lorenzo is going to live in Cottonwood and have some girls to love.

Yay, we FINALLY got our first egg since all the girls started molting in Novemberish. The rest are starting to show enlarged, bright combs, too. We may be getting back on track shortly. It's been hard having to buy the vegetarian store bought crap that doesn't cook right!

On a bad note, our broad breasted turkey keeled over last week. She was overdue for slaughter, but seemed so healthy that I waited. My freezer was rather full and shd wouldn't fit. I guess heart gave out anyway. No pests or anything on her. She just became very lethargic at roosting time and was dead by morning. Another GREAT reason to buy heritage....
