Arizona Chickens

I would report her. I can't stand it when animals are mistreated and abused.
U just have to see it urself i cant explain it.. she lives in humboldt.. even broken eggs outside where the chickens were.. gross! we had to watch our step for sure! cream legbars, blue laced red wyandottes..how can someone that has such beautiful birds have such nasty living quarters for her birds? and her chicks outside i think made me the maddest! over 60 chicks outside and at least 20 adult fowl. ya know that movie texas chainsaw massacre ... reminded me of that but chicken living quarters.. nasty! I feel like at least i saved 3.. from staying there. when they first got to my home they were really hyper then they realized hey there is fresh water, food and its not cold! and settled down..

Poor things, I'm buying Blue Wyandotte. Hopefully I can buy some more. How are they surviving in the cold?

by supporting her and giving her money she isnt going to buy better conditions. she's going to buy more chicks to sell and make more money to buy more chicks. cycle of terror.

I know exactly what you mean. There is a lot of animal abuse and neglect around here. Just a few weeks we had some renters who lived in the house behind us and they just left their rabbit and rooster there. No food or water, they just up and moved away and dumped them. The rabbit was living under a trailer before we could finally catch it, plus it was albino so it would have never survived out here. We wound up taking in both the rabbit and the rooster. The bad things is that the rooster is a game bird (not purebred but bred for fighting, but he is suprisingly nice to people) but we let him out into the pen thinking he would be okay and he started fighting. So now he's in isolation. It's sad though, I have a feeling people around here engage in cockfighting.

just caught up on 300 posts. been busy this march but its finally spring break! maybe i can get some work done around this place.

LKD my condolences on the loss of your mother, i cannot imagine. my mom moved out here after surgery to remove her cancer. i am greedy about my time with her.
AZKat how is your baby girl? every time i see your avatar i think of pregnant you, but that was some time ago, haha.
i have the britetap water system and i liked it, but the water in the reservoir gets hot, even tho we put ice in the cooler. i dont know if i will use it this year - probably will, but with back up as usual. i have a cat litter pan i fill every day for them to lay in and get all muddy gross. i am interested in the cups tho, and eventually when i irrigate this yard i might put in something more permanent.

i dont remember all the posts i read but welcome to all the new members and all the chicks.

Yes the vaccinates were done as she got them from a hatchery.. but they looked so cold... all huddled together.. :( I never thought i would see chickens in such a dump.. and even my 7 year old was like wow you have alot of junk and garbage out here.. i had to susssshh him a little.. she has BLRW's too (im a lil jealous) but the living conditions i would never think in my wildest dreams anyone would have for their babies & adults...*shakes my head* it was sad..... the chicks are 10 days old outside like that.. just omg.. all my babies are nice and warm inside our house.. i would not put them outside... just omg.. it angers me and makes me sad all at once!

here is her craigslist ad: http://prescott.craigslist.org/grd/4363969463.html
I saw that ad today, wonder how many chicks she will loose to the cold.

Yeah, probably.

They are all huddled together the blue wyandotte, the marans and the brown leghorns... the Rhode island reds she has are in another cage huddled under this plastic thing trying to stay warm... poor babies... there is only one heat lamp per cage... outside.. and with the winds and such.. they must be soo cold.. they seem much happeir (the 3 i got) now that they are here with my other babies.. fresh bedding (i clean it every few hours) and fresh water and food.. and lincoln logs to play on..
