Did they have featherd feet? Man it is hard to keep track of the eggs when the other hens go in & lay.. I have marked them go keep track but on days like today I work & can't check 4x a day.she all ready has 11 under her.. For her that is maxed out. She is just a bantam.. Some of the eggs are from you & flower & boy are they grade A large.well things have been terribly crazy around here the last couple of months; my work was insane; 50=70 hours a week. finallly got some days off and have been working around the place a bit; some of it in my blog in my sig line. Have somewhere around 80 chicks, have about 25 eggs due this weekend, another 20 due the following week and just set 29 for my friend due the end of the month. Tomorrow we will set about 20-25 at work (I work with people with disabilities and we are going to hatch chicks; have 15 of them already sold) then I AM DONE hatching! for spring! I really didn't want to be hatching this late, but with my work schedule I couldn't get some of my breeding pens set up. Now to finish getting the garden situated so I have stuff to sell the first Sat of June when our farmer's market opens, build some more grow out pens and monitor all the chicks. Mid May I'll be picking up my LGD a Maremma pup from some folks down in Maricopa. So I'll be spending lot of time training and monitoring him with the chickens.whew. yes I"m crazy and I know it ;-) cityfarm; poor Roger and little Princess were taken off by a predator. I have one pet quality silkie from them. I have two more from Roger and Bianca from an earlier hatch. Pretty sure that the three brown chicks in the new hatch were Roger's. I moved Bianca in with some other Silkies after I lost R&P so the other chicks are probably from the other boys.
When I was out of town my son said when he went in a black cat was sleeping in one of the laying box's. It totally freaked him out. I only wanted him to go in at night so our rooster would not go after him.. I was wondering what was making the hay all flat.. I might put our border collie in at night.. She would be so sick from all the poo I missed.. She loves to eat it,

Thanks! I never leave my chickens to free range alone anymore. a bobcat got two of our cockerels and after that I just couldn't leave them out alone anymore. We are in the middle of a wilderness area so there is no sure way to keep wild animals out.
It's great fun to hang out with them though, they take me on hikes all over the place!I'd love to have Silkies, I just want to make sure they will be safe and happy here. I'm thinking it might happen!
We have hawks, eagles and all sorts of other predators out here, so I am not going to risk them being alone anymore, although we also have many crows that nest around here and they are great for shooing hawks and things away from the area. I feed them all the time to keep them coming back. Lol!
Our chickens are very flighty and very alert, but they are too precious to me to risk any more loss. I was heartbroken over our two that were lost.
Our cockerel is really good about watching for danger, he sees things all the time that I would never have noticed, he makes me a more observant person. Chickens are awesome, I'm so glad we decided to bring them into our lives. Thanks very much for your advice, I am so grateful for this forum and the people who come here.
