Arizona Chickens

I found out the hard way I am allergic to duck eggs. Apparently it is a common allergy and ducks are a different class of birds from chickens/turkeys. I can eat the latter just fine, but no duck eggs. You might want to try some out to make sure you like them and that they are compatible with you before you decide to get ducks if the main reason for getting them is to eat the eggs. It took the second time eating duck eggs before I got sick. The first time I figured was my sensitizing dose. The second time---ugh, I felt like I wanted to die. My partner at the time ate the same duck egg omelet and he was fine, so I know it wasn't food poisoning.
Whoa. Yeh probably a good idea to seek a couple eggs out beforehand.

Yeah shoot we should do the same.. Agh, that would suck.. I have no idea where to find duck eggs.. I will look at the Tempe's farmers market.

I'm so sorry to hear about this desertmarcy.  :(   When I was diagnosed with cancer they feared it had already spread to my lungs and an x-ray showed I had a large suspicious lesion/nodule.   They biopsied it by having me take a deep breath and sticking this big probe device in between the ribs and into the lung.  The sound of it puncturing is unforgettable.  Anyway, they had a team ready to analyze the sample and before I got off the table my surgeon stood over me and said, "I never thought I'd say this, but congratulations, you have valley fever!"  We were so relieved, given the alternative.  I never knew I had it, but in retrospect it made sense given how tired I was all the time.  I just attributed to the long hours I was working.  I hope your body can rise up and squash it quickly.

Thanks, Gallo. I don't know for sure that it is valley fever, but symptoms are typical. I know avoiding stress is a big factor in helping any kind of recovery, but unfortunately, the announcement by our caretaker that she is leaving soon added a huge load of stress onto me, all at once. Add to that all these birds I've got....I have lots to sell and just hate to butcher pullets....if anybody wants pullets, contact me. I'm selling some of my heritage re-created Delaware chicks, too, the ones Kathyinmo re-created from heritage lines. They are 5th generation now. And if someone is interested in the German New Hampshires, I'm thinking of selling off the whole flock. I've got 15 hens, they are beautiful. I've been drinking strong Neem tea. Neem is known for it's antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. I think most people would not like it, but for some strange reason, I do. It is extremely bitter.

Your experience with a lung needle biopsy is something I do not wish to experience! So you never had any other symptoms from valley fever other than tiredness?

When I get home I will look up the benefits of taking oregano essential oil, however I do believe it does the same as neem, but more.. We put it in a capsule, so there is no taste..

I am not physically able to help but I have two boys that will be out of school on Fri. Just let me know if you need help with anything.

That is a dangerous offer! I always need help, especially with raking out pens. Grunt work that doesn't take a lot of skill.

Boy that is a blessing in disguise..
Also I briefly tried to look up all the oregano properties.. I'm out of time.. I can remember that it is good for respiratory system, immune/anti-infectious good for muscles & bones.. & anti aging..

Please help!!! I have too many chickens - especially roosters! I have a polish frizzle (pictured) that I'm pretty sure is a rooster. I'm going to sell him as it doesn't seem anybody in AZ has polish frizzles, and they're the cutest chicken on the planet!!! People sell polish frizzles for $100. I'd like to get about $30 for this little specimen. As I'm sure everybody on this website knows, he can only be bred with smooth feathered girls. I also have two smooth feathered polish that I won't charge anyone for if they can provide a good home. I think one is a boy and one is a girl. They're darling, and may carry the frizzle gene. Finally, I have two male cream legbars that I need to find homes for. All were hatched around Easter so nobody's crowing yet. If you can help, please let me know! Thanks, Deanna

If the aren't frizzled, chances are very slim that they carry the gene.
