Arizona Chickens

Recently I said I was going to post a pic of my awesome Aloha chicken, but I forgot. It's a phone pic so it's not awesome, but here she is.

AZKat - Congrat's on the new egg layer.
Mohonri - I'll have to look for those seeds at Costco.
leslierf - Welcome to the AZ thread!
Cluckin - fun photo
Laree- ouch! Hope you feel better and better.
Nessa - wow, that web developer must be proof reading everyone elses content but his own.

OK everyone, my hens have super runny poo's. Ideas on what to check for?

Thank you for the offer Mahonri... I have 2 EEs right now though, so I want something different.

I'm just up the road from you (T-Bird Farms South) I had the same question regarding pests/predators. I have seen hawks and coyote in our area. I think an even bigger problem for me will be all the roaming dogs. We had our first encounter with a 4.5' gopher snake a few days before we actually put the chicks in the new coop. A "fortress" is definitely in order out here!

Cluckin, I really don't like barred chickens but your Aloha is drop dead cute >3
Laree, your body sounds painful right now. Can you put anything on the cut? Dozer is in serious Mommy mode huh? You can send her to mmeeeeee!
I wouldn't care if she looses her broody, she is still awkwardly adorable.

One of the vet tech positions I applied to a month ago called...I landed an interview tomorrow. $11.50 an hr and full benefits on day one.
Wish me luck and hope my lack of 'official' work experience doesn't harm my interview.

Yeah, that strawberry feeder idea looks like a real winner. Very nice Tofu.

FEEDING EGGSHELLS to your Hens. So, weeks ago I decided to give this a try. I saved a bunch up and then tried crushing them. Well, the blender failed miserably to pulverize them. I don't have a food processor type machine. So I put them in a ziplock back and took the rolling pen to them. However they are still in chunky pieces. How small do they need to be? I recognize them as egg shells, but they are smaller than the nail bed of my pinky finger.

Also, someone mentioned microwaving them first....others oven drying...do some of you just put them in a bowl and let them air dry? pros' & con's?

I hope your interview lands you that job! I just wanted to say, though, that our vet pharmacy is so busy that they are ALWAYS hiring. They can't keep up with the work they have. Just an idea. You probably have a vet pharmacy in your area.

Sending good wishes your way. My 2 cents on interviewing:
1) People hire people they like. The qualifications are used as justification for hiring the person they like.
2) All the questions you get asked are to get you talking so they can get a feel for you, whether they like you and whether you are responsible and whether you have a good skill set for the work needed.

Just my 2 cents.
