Arizona Chickens

I use Nutrena start n grow for my chicks until they start to lay. Then I use Nutrena layer pellets, oyster shell and/or crushed egg shells. They also get vegetable and fruit scraps periodically.
I will not use AZ Feeds because my chickens always seem to get the runs with that stuff.

I do not feed scratch except in the evening in the winter, and my DS's showbirds never get it. I was told by a couple of breeders that it can encourage molting.

You might have to try a couple of brands or feed combinations until you find one you like for your flock. Good luck!!

Redrockerooster: I wasn't sure, so I did a 'pelvic check' on the pullets, and based on that, the Wyndotte and the RIR could both be laying, and one of the EE's was very close. I saw the RIR on the nest today, and there was a pullet egg in the nest, so she's laying for sure.

Congrats on landing the interview, I hope you get the job.

Joel David: I've got 2 dozen waiting for you, whenever you pick them up.

Mahonri: Thanks for the tip on the seeds. My in-laws have a Costco membership, maybe I can talk them into picking some up.

Laree: I hope that you feel better soon!

So it has to happen to every chicken owner at least once...

We did in a chicken tonight. First time.

We went all out... got a board and Steve hauled out his manly axe...

The poor little guy (the roo... not the hubby) just didn't have a chance. I can't have a rooster, and he was a total mutt and no one wants a mutt roo.

I have to admit... seeing it on YouTube is drastically different that seeing it in your own back yard.

The dog had a grand ol' time licking up what the hose missed.

Sicko.

BUT... to lighten things up, I went out today to pick up some eggs (I had orders for 7 dozen from work people, and *7* in the fridge... not going to cut it) and while I was out, I picked up an EE. She's pretty hefty... not sure whether she just needs some exercise and better feed, or what but she's got a solid pound or even 2 on my EE that's 2 months older. We'll see if that evens out.

Goodnight everyone!!

See you tomorrow Mahonri
