Arizona Chickens

I am also having an awful ant problem. I tried DE but it seems to have no effect the ants. I guess I will try the boiling water.
This is the first summer for my older girls here in Queen Creek and they only lay occasionally now. We were up in the White Mountains, I guess it's a trade off as I don't have the bears and as many predators to get at my chickens.

I think @City farm has it right now and it's about to head to the west side of the state in a couple weeks with @kpgoldstar . That's a bummer about the grapes, they've done well here in Tucson. I have them on drip irrigation, which probably helps a lot.
How would i go about getting sent to me when its in my area? I just use to water them twice a day, i have corn, zuccini and cucumbers growing in my garden from seed my tomatoes didnt grow from seed this year, soon to plant beans, squash and pumpkin.

You have to travel to get the seed box directly from another member; It's too big to send it cost-effectively in the mail. Plus, it makes us meet each other and I think that's a good thing. If you have extra seeds or can collect some from what you're growing, save them aside to add to the box.

Here's what it looked like when it departed my house a couple months ago.

I see, ill be happy to contribute seeds, i have Canary melon seeds right now and ill have zuccini and cucumber soon.

Maybe there are some now in the AZ BYC seed box? We have a seed box that travels from member to member and you might find something in there. Of course, anything you plant in the run will have to be protected until the growth tips get out of reach of the chickens. I have grape vines planted in my run and the chickens love the leaves--and the grapes too!

I've never grown grapes. I noticed Home Depot had them out on their patio - is now a good time to put grapes in the ground?? If so maybe I need to begin researching this so I can try growing them.

Mornin yall, i was wondering if anyone would have any Texas Lilac seeds they could send me or any other kind of plant seed i could plant in my run that the chickens could eat but not destroy? :jumpy

I don't remember seeing any of that particular seed in the BYC seed box.. @sill is poping by for tea & chciken/garden talk.. Plus going threw the seed box.. Will look again.. Good luck trying to grow in a chciken run. We got a above ground fruit stand from sprouts.. I bent hardware cloth in a dome shape to keep out the scratching little brats.. I plan on planting lettuce & other plants with a small root system..

You could probably get by planting them right now. They'd do best if planted in the winter or early spring, but as long as you watered them regularly they should do well. I think I planted mine at about this time of year, maybe a bit earlier. If you were closer, I'd give you a vine I made from cuttings.

I rather deal with ants then all these god forsaken mosquitos we are getting out here, i think i got bit around 100 times yesterday evening while checking on my girls. We have the piss ants we call them pineapple ants because if you accidently eat one they taste like pineapple lol, we also have the big red ants, the big black ants and the red ants that have black butts lol. My girls take care of any that get into there coop just like the two scorpions they tore apart already lol and there only three weeks old. :jumpy

I must say that when my DH did the no carb diet those pesky Mosquitos just kept on flying by him..
Normally he is up for 2-3 night till he bleeds..
