Arizona Chickens

Good morning..
Have new neighbors & the rooster.. Well, I am trying the collar.. He took it off the first night. Then by the second day trying he got his beak stuck. I took it off, now just need to try the right fit.. I believe I am leaving it to loose, I am just a bit apprehensive.. He is fine.. When we first put it on he tried to walk backward.. Poor little guy.. I don't want to get rid of him... I have no time to catch up on threads.. Stay cool everyone..

Was it a Coopers? I don't know what's going on with our hawk population here in Tucson, but it seems to have crashed in the past few months. I'm lucky if we have a Cooper's show up once a week. In years past I'd be more likely than not to see one out there at any give time. On a walk around the neighborhood we could see as many as five or six and now we might not even see one. We're also not seeing many Red Tailed or Harris hawks. I wonder if they're succumbing to Trichomonas from the doves? Anybody hear anything recently about this?
I havent heard anything about Trichomonas killing off the hawk population, i know that Coopers and Red-tail are migratory but dont migrate until September or October not sure about the Harris. I have a Red-tail that always visits my house a few times a week.

Chickens eat a lot less when it's this hot out. It's not too hot for cocci, but it doesn't sound like your birds are showing any symptoms either. As long as they're acting normally, I wouldn't worry too much yet.
Worry too much yet lol, we have had chickens for over 15 years without any problems do to illness so i think it is just the heat. We just started raising chickens again we stopped for a little more then a year because we were in a bind money wise, so i dont think ill have a issue with cocci hopefully but i will buy some medicated feed just incase.

@Papas ChickensMy chickens are not eating as much feed either due to the heat. However, they never pass up the cold watermelon, grapes, canteloupe or strawberries. They are pretty much living off of the cold fruit and whatever bug should pass by them as they lay under the shade of the bushes.

I still have a pair of red tail hawks living in my neighbor's tree year round. Whnever they fly over the older birds ignore them but the young ones run for cover. The hawks are typically being chased by bunches of house finches.

I did it! It works! With everyone's help, it works! Thank you!

I've automated the mister for the chickens when it gets above 100 degrees! I'm going to look at adding a photocell to it so it shuts off at night, since it's still currently above 100 degrees right now at 9PM.

I'll be taking pictures and doing a write up this weekend. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Where is the sensor located? I think it may get too wet if the sensor is away from misting area.

Im not sure which kind it was, I have a sketchy picture on my phone that I'll include one of these times as soon as I have some time to figure it out. It had no red coloring to it so I know that eliminates one, not sure which. Looked like its tail was black and white.
