Arizona Chickens

Las Vegas is really, really far away! I grew up in Connecticut, just about halfway between Boston and New York--2 hours in either direction. 3 hours is about the max I can drive without losing my mind ... unless I have another driver. I don't mind being in the car. I just hate driving. How far is Vegas from Tucson? 10 hours? If I left my home in Old Lyme, CT, in 10-11 hours, I could be:

  1. Going south: Cape Hatteras, NC (the Outer Banks and the beaches)
  2. Going north: the middle of some remote tundra in central Ontario, about halfway to Hudson, Bay (Montreal is only 6 hours. Excellent skiing in VT only 3-4 hours)
  3. Going west: Cleveland, OH

Going to central Maine (Down East) when I was kid to see my uncle was a rough trip! 4 hours! I guess when you are brought up with short car rides and excellent trains to the cities, you get a bit spoiled.

Google says about 6 hours...

I'm the exact opposite. I can't ride in a car very long unless I'm driving. Well I CAN, the other people just won't be happy.

I've made the trip back and forth to Louisiana twice and only stopped for gas. 20 hours. Ugh. 4-20 hour non-stop driving trips. Not fun but I just want to get there already.

When I got divorced in 2009, I moved here from Jacksonville, FL. I took my two kids, two dogs, and one cat. I couldn't find a place sight unseen for three cats, so I found out later he dumped them. I was so upset.

Well that sucks. Not too long ago I was going up the I-17 and saw a guy pulled over right in the exit with his hazards on. I park and hop out to help push the truck out of the way and he is balling. Left the back window down just a bit and some of his cats got scared and started exited while he's driving on the interstate. I felt so bad for this guy but I had to snap him out of it and show him the back up he was creating. He was moving.

Maybe I shouldn't have told that story but maybe someone will rethink it before they crack a window for cats.

It's a major fast flowing highway. I have made it to PHX in 4 1/2 hours on a motorcycle run before. But we were doing like 80 to 85 and cops don't normally stop 25 bikers. Lol...

Not chicken related. However, I'm so excited

to be one step closer to my vision of self sustainability! I picked up a young buck today. Already have my two does. That are 9 months old. The guy says he's 4 months old. (I was shocked when the owner turned the little guy over and I was able to tell "without a doubt" that he was a buck) Good Lord. I'm told he's New Zealand mixed with Californian. I have him in quarantine right now. Poor thing seems so nervous. I think he'll be fine. His temperament is calmer than my girls when picking him up. He looks like a shrimp compared to my 10 lb does. The guy says size shouldn't stop the little bugger and he will continue to grow. I was surprised to find out that this guy kept all his rabbits outside in our triple digit weather. They appeared fine and healthy. Several were running around the back yard seemingly happy as could be. There was plenty of shade, green grass, a misting system and dog bowls full of water. Bunnies of several sizes and colors were available. Because he let them free range in his yard, he had a couple of surprise kindlings. He thought it would be too hot for that but… I am hoping he gave me a hearty guy as my first breeding buck. We'll see in a month or so.
