Chicken math, promoter...:gig
Self promoter. Got 14 today. WTH am I doing? I went to get 4 Marans to join whoever hatches out of my 11 remaining eggs. I'll be happy if I get 2! And what do I do?
  1. 6 Marans (want those dark brown eggs, possibly to get olive eggers with a Cream Legbar?)
  2. 3 Gold sex links: Well, I wanted to be sure I got some pullets, and my new little gold sex link lays the biggest light brown eggs.
  3. 3 EE: I'd love to have some green or blue eggs (esp. if my remaining 2 CCL eggs don't make it to hatch).
  4. 2 Wynadottes: one chipmunky, one black ... uh, coz they are cute?
Pictures? Of course ... just a moment, please. Some of the group. They said Marans, but it looks the same as the Barred Rock chickies. Hope they know what they were talking about . LOL. Gold-laced Wynadotte? There were only two brown ones in the cage ... the rest were black. Black or silver Wynadotte?
Oh girl you will have tons of egg's soon..what is your favorite egg dish? We had barred rock, don't recall what they looked like..as for the others you might be right?? Idk..

Agh!! OUR neighbor

What about goats?  There are many mini breeds and if they don't want to deal with milk they can get neutered boys.

We did discuss that as a option, but those cuties need area to jump and things to jump on, along with they are more distructive in the garden.. But what do I know.. She is the one that brought up the subject as though they are really thinking about doing it..

Hi everyone!!

I have been a member forEVAH but hadn't posted in, well, forEVAH

(thousands of pages ago...)

I've had numerous chickens of various breeds and had a lovely colorful egg basket for a few years.

Well now ... I am down to ... zero chickens

I want to get back in the game, though, and start up my new flock. I will probably hit the feed stores like I did last time (ordering chicks is so 'spensive

) ... UNLESS ...

Anybody got some chicks to sell?

or even ... dare I ask ... chicks and ducklings?

I'm looking to buy in the next few weeks but figured I'd better get the word out now. I'm not really picky on breeds, in fact I'd prefer all different breeds, a hodgepodge of chickababes, variety is the spice of life and all

Thanks in advance!!

I have eggs in my incubator for both duck and chicken eggs. the chickens are just barnyard mixes. My friend gave me eggs to try out my incubator.

Where are you located? We might have a extra drake.. Should know in a few weeks.. I could vent sex, but I don't want to scare him/ Her. Not that you would want a drake.. But he is on the endangered list.. Ancona..
hey if your Ancona is a drake and you want to re home him I have an Ancona duck. :) she is laying eggs and I could send you eggs from them.

Agh!! OUR neighbor & dear friends & us are wanting a sheep for mowing the grass.. Anyone have advice.. Plus they will need a friend..thanks in advance..
Oussant breed. Smaller than a normal sheep???
Geese are a great alternative and they keep grass cut down without ruining it. Please be careful using goats or sheep with fresh grass it can cause bloat and other issues especially when it is wet. Most people do not realize that.

beautiful. what does your boyfriend say? or does he know?

Goat kids or Nigerians are very easy keepers. they prefer to have an obstacle course but honestly you can make one out of materials laying around. but I think Nigerian's are loud. I have 4 mini LaMancha's, 4 Nigerians, and 1 Nubian.

Um ... sorta ...? He knows there is a red glow coming from the shed, which is confusing to him because the incubator chicks haven't hatched yet.

"Why is there a light on in there?"

"It's a chicky thing ..."

So, it's lockdown day for my remaining 11 eggs! I'm trying desperately to get that humidity up.

  1. Put the eggs in a cardboard egg flat.
  2. I filled the bottom channels.
  3. I put one bowl with paper towels. It got up to 60%.
  4. Just put in another bowl with four tampons in it (unused ... LOL).
  5. Waiting to see what the humidity does ...

I am so nervous.

Also, I gave Pepito a dose of epsom salts per someone's suggestion on Tucson CLUCKS in case it is botulism. No change as of this morning. He still can barely lift his head.

are these mealworms? They are in my compost, and they look like mealworms to me. But before Sill had said that there possibly from fly larva.
Any ideas anyone???

For suspect botulism, the best thing to give is activated charcoal. I am not sure of the dose. I imagine it is most effective when given as soon as symptoms show. Activated charcoal is good for adsorbing all sorts of toxins.

In the past the map is given out on the day of the event when you go to a check in station. This is the main reason I have never done it.

That stinks! We live off the Sun Valley Parkway, so the East Valley is a loooong way to go for an unknown! Maybe @K9Dave can share this concern with the rest of the committee!

Same for me. I told that to one of the directors a couple years ago. Not going to pre pay for something that could have me driving an hour to see.
