Arizona Chickens

I'm ready to take a kitten for those that knew people trying to find homes for kittens. It needs to be from a barn yard momma please. It will be used for rodent patrol. Thanks everyone.

I need a month as well as it's like buying your meat for half a year at 1 time. I need a freezer too. There are some for free in CL sometimes but they're all far away from me, and you have to be FAST.

OK, let's try making a list here and see what route everyone wants to go, once the list has been comprised.

All of our decisions will be made later but I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the meat should be Organic GMO free. Also ideas for where/what (I.e. @a little chiken)we purchase and what it's fed, decided later as well.

Add your name to the list please if you are INTERESTED in splitting any of the following.

K9Dave - Pig, Cow
@moms3cuties- Cow
@a little chiken- Pig, Cow
@Billiam- Cow
@kpgoldstar- Pig, Cow
@City farm-Cow
@kevs-chickadeesPig, Cow
@BeckyhsinglscCow
@flowerPig, Cow
@AZKatCow
@kacklinkellyPig, Cow

Update for those that showed interest here. I haven't forgotten and am getting settled into my new house. A few things need some renovations that were unexpected taking me away from these things.

TRAGEDY over here! Something, probably bobcat, dug under my big end pen in my poultry house where I had housed all my growing Barred Rock cockerels and killed all but 3. I had 2 different line crosses of birds in there plus one older male (sire of one of the crosses). This is a real setback on my plans for this breed. I had 33 young males in there to choose from. 8 had already been selected to cull but hadn't had time to do it. Now I have only 3 to choose from and am out hundreds of dollars in feed, and many hours of time. In over 2 years time I had not had any breach of my poultry house, now this. Will be setting trap tonight for sure.

I do not have the time or energy to deal with these birds. Some are probably still okay to process, although they had been laying outside until noon today before I finished my other bird chores and was able to gather them all up, remove bands, and bag them. I have them in two big heavy duty plastic trash bags right now, in my cool garage, feet are cut off so as not to poke holes in the bags. I would estimate there is 100 pounds of chicken.

IF ANYBODY WANTS THESE BIRDS TO FEED TO THEIR DOGS, PLEASE CALL ME AND GET OVER HERE ASAP AND THEY ARE YOURS. I know some people feed raw to their dogs. These are all organically fed chickens.

Oh, no! I am so sorry. Predator attacks are so frustrating.

so I am bummed out. I went to the Dr yesterday and I found out that I still am not released to return to work (going on a year). I have about 5 specialists I need to go and see. I have Cervical spinal stenosis, degenerative joint (2 types) shoulder and my knees and disc disease and joint disease in my neck. She did not sound positive that I will be able to return to work and said I will be having more surgeries in the near future. On the positive side all my labs were good except the fact that I am severely vit D deficient.

Thank God I have an amazing DH and 2 great boys. The livestock pushes me to get up and go do even when I do not feel like getting up. Its a bit disheartening knowing that I probably will not be getting better but maybe they can keep me walking. That is my biggest prayer.

I wanted to remind everyone to be careful we found this huge guy in my coop a few nights ago. thankfully he did not get anyone.

Be Careful.
Yikes! At least it probably was not after your chickens but rodents that might be eating your chickens' feed. It must be an old one to have a tail that long, and fairly rare that the sections are so intact, they usually break before they get that long.

So sorry you had such a big loss, what a set back for your breeding program!

I feed raw too, wish I could have taken some.

At least it is not just me with egg's & the incubator.. I do not enjoy the process.. I would not assist. I have found if I have helped the chick! It will suffer, by not being stong enough & will fail to thrive later..
I've never had one that I've assisted thrive and have had to put them out of their misery. Now I don't assist, it just doesn't end well for me if I do.

I'm wondering if I should get one too. The darn feral cat visits are sporadic and it's not keeping the rodents away. This morning I noticed my not quite ripe pomegranates are being gnawed on. I'm suspecting roof rats again.

I'm keeping my shed doors open so my terriers and hopefully that feral cat can get to them or at least make them feel unwelcome if they are nesting there as they have in the past.

Well the "feral" cat that I have coming around here isn't so feral I'm thinking. I saw it at a neighbors house playing with their dogs. I want one dedicated to our place alone and this one looks a little over fed now I can get closer to it and prob is t helping any problems around here. We have 5 rabbits and they got out and were roaming the property. A feral cat wouldn't have let that happen I don't think lol. I'm looking for a very young kitten so that I can train it to the chickens/rabbits etc.

My chickens are molting and I'm getting one or two eggs a day from them.

However my quail are still going strong and I'm getting 20-25 eggs a day from my 30 quail hens, and 12 of them are only 3 months old. It's good to have them take up the slack. Last week I got 4.6 pounds of eggs from my quail!

In that batch of eggs I had two double yolkers. The one on the left is a normal 13 gram egg, the middle one is 16 grams and on the right is a 22 gram egg! That big one is from one of the youngest hens.

I haven't seen ours play with anyone. It's very shy and young and skinny. I know it sticks around because there is always water available in my yard from several sources. I don't feed it, maybe I should? I don't think my DH wants to spend money feeding a cat that isn't ours.

Good idea for a young cat to get used to the animals that belong. Do you think a resident cat would keep the feral cats away? Or is it the more the merrier with cats? I've never had an outdoor cat, mine have always been indoor only cats.

I feed our feral girl. I'd really like to get her spayed so I'm working on that. She continues to do her job with rodents and snakes. She lets me pet her - kinda - no picking up or sitting on laps, etc - but no one else can get near her. She knows where her food is and when I feed. She takes care of the chicken pasture too. Does not bother the chickens and in fact have found her lounging around on the wet ground with the chickens during the horrid heat. She is very curious and about 3 years old - so I've often wondered if we could get another kitten in a year or so that she can train for the job! I do enjoy watching her.
