Arizona Chickens

I will take a look at the site sometime and see if it's a place I want to order from. I don't know if they breed to American poultry standards or if they are just considered a hatchery?

...... [@=/u/93512/desertmarcy]@desertmarcy[/@] do you have americaunas? please forgive the spelling and do you know anything about McMurray?

Murray McMurray is a huge hatchery. No, they don't breed to APA standards. You can read a lot of reviews here http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/4869/
From such a huge company, you would expect a lot of negatives as well as positive reviews. This site has 87 positives to 40 negatives, plus 19 neutral reviews. That seems like a lot of negatives to me. My first poultry I purchased came from them, back in 2008. I didn't have any problems with the order. But I've heard from people who have had horrible problems with them and would never order from them again. So I guess you take your chances.

Yes, I am currently breeding the blue-black-splash color of Ameraucanas. There is no "i" in Ameraucana if it is the pure breed. I am not sure how long I'm going to keep them, their size is not meeting my expectation but the eggs are light blue. I have a male over my pullets that is unrelated to them. I may see how the offspring of this cross come out or I may decide to scrap the project. I am on the fence right now. I do want to keep some blue egg layers, of a breed that is in the SOP that I can show. I really like the buff color, but good buff Ameraucanas are rare as hen's teeth.

Thank you for the reply! .... you are too funny! :lau

...as you already know I like the birds you have soo. .. I will be saving up for one or two!

here the amail from MCmurray

We are unable to safely ship a small quantity of day old baby chicks, as our shipping minimum is 25 day old chicks.

However, we do offer juvenile chicks, approximately 4-9 weeks old. There is no shipping minimum when ordering juvenile chicks.

Please click the following link to view our juvenile Silver Laced Wyandottes:

I asking them how much for shipping 2 of them to mesa AZ

they said

Shipping would be $95.70 2 ship 2 of the stated pullets.

It sure sounds like it! My husband likes my chickens but he's not obsessed with them. I wish he liked them as much as I do, but for now, I'm happy he even let me have them.

Ideal will ship less with a $25 min. I have had success ordering from them. $25 is usually about 10 reg priced chicks. You can always share an order.

From their website:

There is no minimum number of chicks you can order as long as your total order of poultry is $25.00, not including shipping and handling.
If your order consists of a very small number of items (less than the equivalent of a quarter of a box), there may be male chicks placed in the box for warmth or comfort during shipping. The breed of chicks included varies from order to order and unfortunately we are unable to identify the breed. If you do not wish for us to include males in your order, you may choose to purchase insurance for your shipment at a minimal cost.

... one other Idea too is Pet Club and Mesa Feed Barn have chicks usually but. ... they are hatchery stock, and maybe you can ask them to special order a couple chicks for you when they order some other chicks for themselves. you could ask if you could pre pay for them in advance. That might be another option since those two are here locally in Mesa. @beckyhsinglsc Didn't you have a local Ace hardware that did special orders of hatchery chicks? Goodluck with all the ideas! :)

Ace on Gilbert in South Chandler. Also, Pet Club in Mesa on County Club has told me they would add to their order for me but it was a couple of years ago. I don't know if Mesa Feed Barn would but I know they carry chicks from Ideal.

Can't wait to see it.. Did you you have to take out any tree's? :goodpost:

Yes and No. Do you remember the two palo verde trees on the left, just before entering my main poultry house?  I zig-zagged the pen behind the first tree, only needed to cut it back. So that tree is outside the pen. The second tree, which was larger, is right in the pen. I cut it WAY back, so all the branches are under 6' so I could put the wire over the top. My hope is, it will recover and I will let it grow up through the wire. Even a lightly-leaved palo verde tree provides a lot of shade. The amount of sunlight now coming through and hitting the south side of the poultry house is greatly increased. I hope my drastic pruning will not kill the tree.

Yes I do remember.. That will work well for shade and be nice at the same time..

I'm feeding BarAle organic non-gmo grower that I pick up at the local Pet Club. It's from Williams, CA and my adult birds are fed Renew Poultry pellets, also organic non-gmo. Pet Clubs are all over the valley but I would call first to see if they carry it. Shoppers Supply in Chandler carries it too and their prices are lower.

Thanks
I found couple Pets Club under 5 miles away from me
They only has nature Smart 40lbs about 30$.
on google some one said Costco in California has Nature Smart for 20$, maybe not costco in arizona
