Arizona Chickens

Did a bunch of yard work today and tossed a bunch of the trimmings onto the layer coop while the girls were out roaming the yard. Mow it's getting dark and they don't want to go in the coop. It's DIFFERENT. Who knew that uprooted lettuce plants would be so scary? Silly chickens. Hope they finally do go inside. Gonna get hungry if they won't. Food is in the coop. LOL!

They are silly birds. After the last rain, one of my turkey pens was really bad, muddy, because the roof leaks. I finally took all the dead fan palm leaves that I had cut off and laid them down on the worst of it. Not enough to do the whole pen. The turkeys were TERRIFIED of those leaves and would not step on them or go near them. It took about 4 days before they had the nerve. Now they are walking all over them, just in time for the pen to be drying out

My hubby and I got the new coop and most of the new run assembled today...and both have the sunburns to prove it. It's even got a "skirt" of mesh all the way around to deter predator digging. It's a 4' x 6' coop with an attached 24' x 6' run. Next weekend we finish the roof...just in time for my pullets to move in.

What breed's?
A friend is starting up a new flock soon.. We offered to raise them..
ANYONE have baby chicks around the 11th of February ??? :jumpy
Let me know soon... Or I will have to head to a feed store...

They are supposed to be 4 barred rocks, 3 RIR, 3 leghorns and 2 black Austrolorps. We bought them at a feed store but I don't think they had a clue because these barred rocks don't have the same feather patterns as our last batch had and the leghorns have brown deaths coming in in some places. I guess we won't really know until they grow but hopefully they are all good layers.

So after a recent move, we are restarting our chicken experience. Here is the progression of the coop build so far. I got a lot done today and it should be ready for our birds very soon. Still need paint, wire mesh and another set of nesting boxes. I will post a few more pictures when I get some more progress.

Love the progression photos! Did you cement the blocks together? One layer or two? What is the size of the run area? You have done a fantastic job.

I love looking at people's coop/run designs. Always looking for ideas. It is hard to tell for the photos, did you built it out of chain link or is that metal tubing?
