Arizona Chickens

I want to plant a bunch along the west side of my house for this very reason. If I can't get any of these seeds to sprout I'll be ordering some trees from EcoGrow.
Exactly, I need shade badly especially the west side, but it's full sun back there. Here we have a full on Moringa Farm. I should probably check and see if they have seeds or seedlings. I just have to protect them with wire from a dog that ate my other tree.

Our dog's will eat fruit and veggies.. I will not take any chance anymore...

I hate to do this but....

I am selling my breeding pair of Ohiki chickens. They just don't get along with my flock of LF chickens. They just get picked on. I am selling them for $50 obo. I do not believe that I have gotten an egg from the hen yet, but the rooster has crowed. If there is anyone interested, please PM me. I am in Sahuarita AZ (south of Tucson). I am willing to meet anywhere in Tucson also.

This is the time to be out side.. If we do a seed exchange, who can make it? It would be on a Friday or Saturday around 5:30/9:00 PM.

Was there no interest in this? Just saw the posting. I'd like to do this but I leave for Skull Valley on Sunday with a Horse Show in Scottsdale on Saturday so I wouldn't be able to make it. It's still too cold up there to plant anything but I'd love to get some of those Moringa Seeds so I could get some shade growing for the chicken run and coop. I would love to see what's in that Seed Exchange box now, haven't been around in over a year so I can't imagine what it has in it by now. How could I get it? I have plans to go to Tucson in the near future from Skull Valley so I can hand it off to anyone in that route or close of that works out.

No date set.. But you & DW are coming by for tea in the garden soon, I'll save you seed's... :caf

Hello All Arizona chicken lovers! I'm in Chandler and have 4, 11mo old hens. We made it through last summer really well and they have laid consistently. I love all the advice and experiences! Happy to be a part of this group. As we swing into summer, my advice is, lots of water, water the yard 2x a day, clean frozen blocks in their water dispenser, fresh veggies and somewhere they can snuffle in dirt. It cools them down immensely. Thank you!! Jennifer
Nice..they look spoiled..

We are hatching soon on our one acre farm and will be ordering a Marek's vaccination. Because of the price of shipping we want to offer to share the cost with others who may be wanting to vaccinate at the same time. I have the details worked out, just PM me for more info. We want to do it next week so ask soon. Vaccination party! Not really, but you get the point.
For those of you wondering this has no effect on organically raised. And the younger the better. Commercial farms recommend to be one day old at vaccination, but it won't hurt to do at any age.

What breeds are you getting.. I forgot to look where you are in the valley?

Any AZ chicken people out there? I am looking for some advice on raising chicks in the desert. I'm in Mesa. Does it get too hot out here? I have four 20 day old chicks, 3 Buff Orps and 1 leghorn. Do we need to do anything special here
yes we do. There are threads listing the methods
DO NOT RUN OUT OF WATER shade misters wetting the ground and multiple pan's of water with bricks for chickens to cool off. Even a nice vid on YouTube.

Let's see if they respond to this one..:idunno

X2.. Good advice..
I will mail you some seed's unless you can pop on over for a cup of tea in the garden??
Put directly in the ground.. But,,, soak the seed's overnight
@sill said her tree took 2 plus years to have pod's
Wow, I wish I could stop by for tea. I rarely get to go to Phoenix.

Lauren is leaving a surprise..
Another great morning for tea in the garden
good morning and the moringa seeds were in mailbox overnight. Thank you. Bought gallon of each red and white barn paint. I think that might improve the pallet palace coop.

I sure know the moringa will. The weather has been gorgeous. We are up to 35 chicks. Cuteness factor got Linda. 15 are Bantams. Lol half of which I am not sure what they are. But they are very cute. The silkies will probably live forever. Think a few blue Cochin. Lot of feather footed fluff balls. A real pleasure to watch the assorted chicks tuck in and keep each other warm. Yes the heat lamp is on. Lol party all night they do. I ramble pics after I paint the back wall. Still need too build front wall of coop.

Quote: They are actually my aunts roosters, but she is wanting to give them away due to the fact that her female chickens are brooding, and that means she is going to have more baby chickens. She isn't up for this every time they go broody, so she is trying to convert to a no-fertilization-farm like I did. Unfortunately. she lives all the way up in Eagar/Spingerville area, and its hard to have chickens up there because of the predators. (wolves, bears, foxes, eagles, hawks, even the crows, coyotes, you name it. )

The roosters she is attempting to give away are a pair of beautiful breeding Old English Game Bantams. I've been thinking recently, that maybe a 4H or FFA group could give use a pair of roosters. But the only few I know of that would don't have email contacts., which unfortunately, is my only way of contact at the moment XD
