Arizona Chickens

That would be difficult, since my hens are rarely in their coop....
my husband and I enjoy watching them chasing bugs all over the yard,
I just get annoyed when they get into my garden
most of the time they stay on their side of the fence, but sometimes it's just too tempting for them

We installed 6' high lattice around my garden...and then discovered the one of my pullets had zero problem flying that high so she could get into the garden. So we added another 2' of lattice. Yep! She could fly that high too. But once she started laying eggs she seemed to lose interest in making that much effort to sneak into the garden. Yay! Problem solved!

Then yesterday one of my EE roosters flew all the way up to the support structure surrounding my garden....10-12' high. *Sigh* Luckily he just wanted to be up high rather than wanting to ruin my hard work. Darn chickens, LOL!

Yeah,
we have 6' block wall, and 6 ft chain link.
They roost on the chain link every night..
most mornings they jump over the gate to wait by the back door for us to feed them,

Quote: yeah i've taken it up with the Ag. teachers and we have all agreed she is not allowed to "free range" the property anymore, as my dad was pretty p*ssed last night that the teachers let a pig trample me XD god thing i told him it was my fault. (twas though)

i will not be going near her again XD

someone else will just have to put on their big boy pants and feed her from now on.

OH I TOTALLY FORGOT TO MNTION THAT WE GOT OUR INCUBATOR TODAY !!!!

GUYS IM SO HAPPY

I can finally help to set it up and i'll be experimenting this quarter with some Mutt eggs!

(Barred rock x silkie, Wyandotte x silkie, EE x Silkie, jubilee Orphington x Silkie, white silkie x buff silkie)

all the good stuff just to make sure the incubator actually works.

so excited!!

and with 5 weeks till the end of this quarter, it's a perfect time to do so!

So full body scan this morning, I have a few large bruises and feel stiff but otherwise okay , knock on wood. (I dont think I mentioned this yesterday in my angst, but she dirt-rolled me pretty good. Got stepped on a few times)

I do happen to know why, she wants to eat the good/healthy chicken feed that I bring for my birds, and so she destroys things to get to it.

unfortunately barbed wire wouldn't faze her at all.... her hide is too thick. now a moat isn't a bad idea, if I could get across XD

accept wait....pigs like water.

checked up on the Pol's this morning, they are also fine, Benatar (Benny) was attempting to crow.

im really startring to think that Mercury might be a girl! (cheering)

as for punk, he be the biggest sweetheart in the coop. i do mean big. like he towers over benny and Merc.

Glad you're OK.

Now for that pig......there's a veg store here giving away free pumpkins. Maybe if you could get bunch of those near you it might keep her busy?

Nice...the squawk begins.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything crossed that Mercury is a girl! That'd be awesome. You'd have a bearded & non-bearded roo then. Good start to a program if they're coming in nicely otherwise.

I was thinking punk would be really good sized. Not too surprised he's totally sweet too. I wonder with how he likes to pose if you were to give him a mirror what he'd do? lol I could just see him practicing for the next photo shoot!

Would shade cloth or wire across the top stop them? I'd like to try my hand with some herbs, vegs before too long & am looking for ideas to keep chickens, wild birds, strays, etc. out. I like the lattice boundary idea...pretty too.

Hi All! I live in the valley and have 3, 9 week old, laced polish chickens. One is a roo and usually that's ok as we sell them at the county fair in the spring. My problem is that he has started to crow! I have never had a roo start so early. I can't keep him. He is beautiful(silver laced) and he is sweet. I would be willing to deliver him to a good home

You're not alone on the porch mess. I've some of mine who roost there.

It's kind of nice seeing them peering thru the french doors' windows waiting for breakfast though.

Such fun!!!!! I've got to get in an incubator. From what I can tell the boys here are doing their job. So, I'd have various mixes & once separated some pure. Unfortunately, so far no one is broody. That might be partly my fault as I grab eggs daily, sometimes a few times a day. Would that stop the broody from starting?
