Arizona Chickens

At the top of the discussion boxes (the spot where the page counter is at on the left) there's a "most liked posts" and "watch thread" link in blue. Click on watch thread. If it says "unwatch thread", you're already subscribed and something's broken. :(

Thank-you...
now if I can just find my other threads.

though AZ is the most important one...

Wow, it's been a busy couple of weeks...
I finally figured out why I wasn't getting updates.... BYC Moved! (duh)
now I have to figure out why it says I'm not subscribed to threads, or just resubscribe. I've got a young hen, who is either broody, or hiding  from the other hens, (I had to get rid of her buddy/protector :( HE was to loud :ya for my neighbors) .
Is it to hot to find her eggs to hatch? or how do I get her out of the nesting box?
If, it's ok to find her eggs... does anyone have some fertile Maran eggs I can buy?

Oh my gosh....I have been battling broodies non-stop. As of this morning I'm down to 2 after peaking at 9, but that could literally change within an hour. These girls just don't seem willing to accept that I really do have more than enough chickens right now.
:th

I probably have enough.... but chicks are soooo cute. I'd have to buy fertile eggs for her... but is it too hot, is it physically dangerous for her to brood?

Having trouble figuring out how to return here in a click or two .... I don't see a subscribe button, and I don't see a personal subscription list... In order to get here I have to go to account, click my name, click my postings, click on a posting, then go to end of forum.
ANY suggestions?
It's not called subscribed anymore. They're call "Watched Threads". If you go to the top right corner of the top post you'll see where it says "Watch Thread" and click on that.

It definitely can be dangerous in this heat. I allowed one of my White Rock hens to hatch eggs in the late spring and once the temps hit 95 she was positively miserable. Luckily she's also a smart bird and figured out she could leave her clutch for longer periods of time to cool off since the ambient temperature was so high. She was actually off the nest when the first egg unzipped. But with a really persistent, determined broody that refuses to get off the nest, they can die of heat and dehydration in our warmer temperatures.

there was a desert chicken on my wall today <3

gosh was he majestic XD

So How do I convince her to get out of the nesting box...
It's actually probably one of the coolest spots in the yard.
But I don't want to take a chance....
My husband has been taking her out to make sure she eats, but she just goes right back in.
She's barely 6mos old, and just started laying on 4/22,
I'm surprised that she got broody so young... how often does that mean I'll have to deal with this? None of my other hens seem to have any inclination to brood.

I have a broody sultan right now, and she has thrown off her coop ates laying pattern so she isn't laying either.

lol, I took her next box away. Its a simply five gallon bucket with a chicken special lid on it, screwed sideways to my coops base, so I just yanked it from the screws and put it in the shed.

It forces her to do something other than lay down and brood, because there is no longer a place to brood. She still hisses and squawks at me when I pick her up, but she is eating and drinking normally.

I say quarantine her during the day maybe? with no egg box and simply open space, food, and water, then at night let her sleep with everyone? I did that when my silkie hen got broody, worked like a charm.
