I don't even wanna get into how many chickens I have, and I got two eggs. They are definately not earning their keep. We bought eggs at the store last night.

You have to get rid of them just because somebody complained? Can't you fight it?

I don't think so, and I sure don't have money for a lawyer. . . .I could not get permission from one neighbor. . .she was afraid it would prevent her selling her house (this was a year ago) she moved, I don't have any way to contact her. . . and anyhow, the complaint is anonymous, I cannot know who complained, and I am "illegal" without permission from all neighbors within 80 feet of the chooks. . . ..

I got a complaint about the number of my chickens so I need to get rid of:

6 Leghorn pullets 3 months old

2 EE pullets 3 months old

1 broody RIR pullet an 2 week old mixed breed chicks of unknown gender

1 6 month old Amerucana roo.

All of them are free. Pick up only.

Call me at 480-358-7679

Which city are you in? Have you actually checked the code? An anonymous complaint is far from an official complaint.

I am in Phoeinx, the complaint is from "the city of Phx". . . sounds "official" enough for me. . . .

"better news". . . .

Next Saturday, my girls will travel to Flagstaff to join Santa Claus' (aka Tony Norris') flock of chooks. They could not have a better home, and I am certain that the summertime temperatures will be more to their liking! I will be forever grateful to Tony for offering to take my precious girls, and give them a good home.

I am still on egg alert, checking at all hours of the day to see if my ladies have laid. It seems that out of 6 chickens only 2 are laying: the Production Red and the Marans ... but I haven't been able to figure out WHEN they do it. As for where ... I have found eggs in the nestboxes, by the waterer, and my favorite: on the roof of the coop!

Yesterday morning I bought 6 ceramic eggs and put 2 in each nestbox.... when I checked at noon they had kicked all of the eggs out!

There hasn't been an egg today. I usually let my girls out to free range for a few hours in the late afternoon like 5pm so just to be sure I checked the whole garden, but nothing (whew?)

Should I keep them locked up until they learn to lay in the boxes?

Also ... a few minutes ago I let them out when I went to check on them. The Red went to a patch of sun and huddled down, then one by one, all the others joined her, all huddled together, in the sun, at 2pm. Normal?

Anywho thanks for all of your help, advice and support

Oh really? I thought it said Pinal, but maybe it is split. I guess I have heard something about part of cities being in different counties, or zipcodes stretching over two cities, or something like that. It doesn't make sense to me, just adds to a lot of needless confusion, I think. Oh well. Thank you for clarifying that.

That's good to know! Knowing my luck (or lack thereof) the house I'm looking at on a half acre is probably not in one of those hoas, but I'll check it out anyway, because that would be wonderful! Just seems like a really sad waste of property. But even if it doesn't allow chickens, someone could have a really nice garden and pool and still have room to play! I'd take it if I weren't so dead set on having chickens and a goat, heehee.

Hi all!
Been busy and not getting my notifications. Just read all the posts. Whew! Cap! So sorry to hear that you had to get rid of your girls. AZKat - you, too! What is with the fussy neighbors!?
I sure do love living on my county island. No rules here.

Well, I need some advice. I have bugs! Ew!!! I thought it was just the 3 new girls and I had gotten it under control. I had just told someone that I was ready to put them into the big coop because they were free of the bugs. Then tonight I checked them and they not only had a fresh hatch of mites/lice or whatever they are, but I found them on my other chickens, too. They have officially spread to all the chickens.

I was hoping they were poultry lice because lice carry out their entire life cycle on the host animal. Mites, however, live in the bedding, coop, etc. and get onto the birds at night. I still think these are lice, but not positive. All my girls are moulting and I am upset that their new feathers are going to be lice egg infested. I need to be aggressive with this. As I said, I thought I had them knocked out. I am really icked out and need to know what to do.

I have been using a natural pyrethrin powder and DE.

My plan was to rake out the coop down to the dirt and DE the heck out of it. Make it like snow all over the coop and dust the birds with the pyrethrin powder. It is expensive, but it sure killed the bugs fast. It is just that they keep hatching new ones!! The lady at Western Ranchman said to dust every week for 3 weeks and then once a month after that. That is what we did, but they are back with a vengeance! EEEk!

Help!

Also I have a Polish with a terrible looking skin problem on her neck. She has no feathers there and the skin looks crusty and I think it itches. I often see her scratching. Any ideas?

Thanks all!!
