Arizona Chickens

It's nice to and easier fall and winter isn't it?

They were plastic I had them since they were chicks, I don't bleach my dishes I wash them often with dish soap and apple cider vinegar but eventually though they looked OK I think they became porous and housed smelly bacteria

So the new ones were from walmart, 5 bucks each, advertised for horses but they aren't too deep, and have worked well so far and I like that they didn't smell like plastic you know? Like the Rubbermaid totes do? :D

Oh yes, I look forward to this time of year!
Good to know about the dishes, thanks. I do know over time they get stinky. I use vinegar and dish soap, no bleach too. I have been using a glass pie dish since the birds got so big because I didn't use it but I need something not glass. We are going to make treadle feeders to keep out wild birds and I need something to go inside.

@igorsMistress Great, clear, looking healthy eyes!!
The treadle feeders are great until the doves figure out it takes two or three of them at a time to be on the treadle so they can eat!!! Watched it with my own eyes and still laugh about it!!
:lau I hope the IQ of the doves here isn't quite so high!
Thanks for the compliment on the pic. She's one of my production reds and super friendly.

@cactusrota How are those little naked neck chicks that you hatched out doing now? How big are they getting? Did you get any black ones in the bunch?
The majority are melanistic, some are showing some wild type partridge or mottling... and those that aren't have that pattern on their face that makes me think they've got to have something in there that isn't showing yet. I'll have to get more pics today to see if I can show what I mean by that. They are all spunky as heck, though!!! :)

@igorsMistress

i think i saw one of those treadles on youtube, i would love to know how you design it, with our 360 cage the only birds that get in are the mini winter birds that have come once again and they just leave their droppings all over any other bigger birds than that and the roosters growl at them when they pass by, but they can't get in anyhow but those little ones, in the water, in the food dish, but since i got this new one they tend to perch on the side and not go inside of the dish so the droppings stay out of the food for the most part now...

We might have time to work on one tomorrow. I'll be sure to take pics as we go.
