Arizona Chickens

The Austra-Whites were given a good review on My Pet Chicken, but I'm a little concerned about their socialabilty in a mixed flock. I don't want all Hell to break loose. I'm leaning toward My Pet Chicken because I can't handle that 25-minimum chick order from the large hatcheries, and I haven't researched any local breeders that sex their chicks.

I don't make people buy 25 chicks from me at a time, but I'm not one of those hatcheries neither.

Bobby, I don't know how what you were thinking would work out. The 2 that I have were from the 2 eggs of my next door neighbors that had the fire. The hens were White Leghorns, the roosters were Australorps that they got from me. They are 3 months old now. Do you want them? They are free.

Thank you for the kind offer, BlueBaby, but my coop is not built yet. I'm really dragging my feet and constantly revamping the design.

As far as genetics and crossbreeding go, I was speaking in a general term out of curiousity, and can't believe all the recognized crosses we have this day that descended from the Jungle Fowl.

I have no interest in genetics and crossbreeding, other than casual reading, but the Austra-Whites just caught my attention a few days ago and was looking for some feedback on them.

That's neat that you have those crosses. How's their temperment?

They are very curious and active. They didn't seem stressed real bad when it was still hot out there. They seem to be getting along ok with my older rooster and hens. I think that they would be a good foraging breed. They are more interested in trying to eat my shoe strings than the food when I go in the run to feed them. I am not interested in continuing with them however, and would like to see them go to a good home. I prefer my pretty Australorps, and may get into doing some of those Naked Necks too.

I was thinking the same about the feeders, thanks. Such a good idea.

I ask Mother Nature for help all the time! She sees to it the neighborhood cats and our resident hawk have easy pickins at the neighbors house :lau

Ironically the big boy chases birds off when he's in a mood. Most of the wild birds are very young doves and pigeons that probably can't compete with the herds of birds at the neighbors place. At my place they have to forage but they find plenty.

My daughter had an albino king snake she took from a teacher, but when she had kids we gave her to a young man still in school. She loved to coil around an arm and just hang out.

Have a great day lady! :)
that is very kool about you daughters snake:thumbsup and THANKS , YEAH I LOVE THOSE FEEDERS, and sooo cheap....lol...which also makes me happy and they do work well thank god , i was sooo sick of all those other feeders , and these feeders work well with the dry layer feed ,when they are hung just right like at the middle of the birds neck hi , on the neck the part that bends forward so the head can reach into the feeder , that way they wont be able to drag the dry feed out with there beaks and dump it on the floor ,and even if they are hung down low that the birds can almost clime into them ,they still work good , but i feed the wet layer feed all the time now,i noticed that the wet layer feed also helps to keep them hydrated to , so i could not go back to the dry feed ,the wet feed is just that good..!& my birds will tell you the same ..HA even the wild cat eats it....lol.. any way its good to mix in a liquid multi vitamin and what ever else i have for them laying around HA, today they got several loaves of Italian bread from our neighbor , and boy today was treat day for sure ...lol....;):) well you take care & have a good one :frow:) :highfive:

You'd be better off with the Australorps.

Agreed....especially YOUR Australorps.

So these Austra-Whites are not much better than a straight Leghorn? I don't want to be around any nervous birds.

They are larger and a little less nervous than the Leghorns. There was A LOT of fighting among the males and they were more inclined to be human aggressive. I butchered all of mine. I can't speak to the laying capacity of the females though. I only received one girl with my purchase and she turned out to be completely devoid of any sex organs....never gave me a single egg, never crowed....just ate food and when about her business. She was a lot more docile than the males, but a very strange bird. My son adored her, but he's not the one paying for the feed.

Thanks, DesertChic, I was actually looking for some Delawares or something similar when I came across these, hoping they would be a good investment.

What's the difference between an instapot and a pressure cooker?

It has several features, stainless steel pot, heavyvduty, you can steam, make cheesecake, saute with it open like a regular pot, and slow cook if you want, I used one before from the TV with a coated pot, it didn't work in the times promised and the pot got the food stuck on it so far instant is much better ☺

(Sorry my response took so long and the covers at ion has changed lol);)

I am looking for fertile eggs in the greater Phoenix area. My son needs to hatch them for a science project. Any recommendations?
Thanks.
