Arizona Chickens

Ok, remember that I still had 2 more eggs that had not hatched yet? Well, the due date on these was yesterday. The biggest egg left in there decided to hatch out during the night. I woke up this morning to another baby Splash. The last remaining egg in there didn't feel as warm as it should have been, so I removed it. So, out of this hatch I ended up with 6 chicks.... 2 Black, and the 4 rare colored Splash!

@Bobby Basham Oh to be a fly on your wall! Relax, breathe you will do just fine and so will those chickies. NOW you are going to need something with a cover in about 7-10 days or so as those little dinosaurs will be flying to the rim of your brooder! One person I know often uses one of those soft dog crates but I personally think a small/hopefully tall tent would be a great brooder! I also don't use a light to heat with but still it might work. Enjoy your new TV!

Entirely off topic, but I plan to move to Alaska at the start if summer, and I was looking for dairy goats, Nubians, dwarfs, etc, but I can't seem to find any registered goat breeders here, and all the goats on Craigslist seem to have either health issues or are mixed with meat breeds. Does anyone know any breeders in Arizona?
I don't know where you are going in Alaska but I would wait until I got there to get my goats. Alaska's goats are a bit different than Arizona's. In AK you can get Saanens (sp?) and French Alpine - both great milkers. Up ear type goats because of weather. Yes they do have the floppy eared style too but just saying it would make your life easier. We had a gentlemen's farm that raised goats and provided goat's milk for babies as well as our 5 kids. We moved from the interior, Fairbanks - North Pole, in 1986 so while I might be a bit out of touch, I don't think the goats and weather have changed too much. I'm properly envious!

Thank you! I was thinking i may be able to find some nubians or dwarfs here because when i was looking online to check to see what kind/if they have goats I'd be interested in getting up there, they seemed to only have milkers on the lower production end. I figured I'd ask around here beforehand, because my goal (If i get the piece of land I'm currently haggling for) is to make structures that are partially underground and have lots of natural insulation so really no matter the kind of milk goat/cows i wind up with, the animals won't be uncomfortable even in below 0 temps.

These are just basic ideas, but I'm going to be building my homestead from the ground up (or from the ground IN I guess? haha) and so i am deliberating ideas for a barn, obviously no stairs, but the concept is similar. I'll be running on solar out in the middle of nowhere, so if i can go without needing heat (besides a woodstove) or AC for either me or my animals, then it'll save a lot of energy.

I am one of those people that like to be prepared, I wouldn't get any animals until I have proper homes for them. Good luck I hope you get your land in Alaska. You might have to get what you want shipped after you move.

That's what I'll be doing for all the birds I'm getting, but I won't be moving any animals up until i at least have a fence and temporary shelter, I just figured since I'll be building and then coming back down to bring everything up on a second trip, I could get goats/cows when I come down to move things up.
