Sweet!!! Sounds like they should be in full gear by the time I'm ready! The first of my SGDs have just started laying again. I know of two for certain and am waiting for the remaining ones to start laying too. These girls have been slow to end their strike and their molt, but we're getting closer. Maybe next month???? At least their eggs are much larger now than they had been.![]()
Awww.. What a sweet gentleman!!!Nice things a Roo does:
Been about 1 1/2 years since I got 'em and I still see new and sweet things my roo does for his girls
To set up the story quickly 2 girls do not get along one has become scared of the other for several reasons, she during the day gets her own run within the run and comes out to lay her eggs or to sleep at night this week she was out laying and her arch enemy decided to cross the line and intimidate her while laying.
Roo intervened there is one entrance to the boxes only and he stood in front of it not letting anyone in while she layed including the growling terrorist
He's so sweet.... just not first thing in the morning... but... who is really? Lol
Hello everyone I am a fellow Arizona chick! I have yet o start my coop and get chickens yet because i want to make sure i know as much as i can before we build our coop for the two chickens i am hoping to get. I am so happy to find fellow Arizona people and would love to pick your brains! SO happy to have found this thread! Shannon
I just wanted to say hi to everyone and give a shout to BlueBaby. Thanks for steering me here. I have some sad news. My splash rooster you helped me identify gave his life today for his hens to a bobcat. He had a short but good life. It all happened so quick and the bobcat wasn't even afraid of me!
Well not even thinking I ran out to protect my chickens. Dumb I know. It was right at the backdoor. It let go of the splash and got one of my EE hens. It got stuck trying to climb the 15 foot pallet wall. I pinned it down with a rake handle till my husband came and killed it. I feel bad, but my protective Instincts kicked in. It could have went so wrong!Good to see you here. Sorry that you lost your rooster. That bobcat will be back for more. Secure your remaining flock. Also if that bobcat isn't afraid of you, it might attack you too. Is there a way to get Animal Control or the Arizona Fish and Game Dept. to
relocate it somewhere else?
I have 3 spare Australorp cockerels that are about ready to start crowing (2 Black, 1 Blue),
but no splash roo to help you to replace yours.
