Arizona Chickens

it's cool those who go about the basics to help animals, but I wouldn't call extra measures babying them, :frow bc a person puts a lot of effort to support that life, and I want the most out of them.

My chickens each know their name, and I taught them signs for certain things so they know what I want and they love and trust me too as much as a animal can, so why have them suffer in a place where not even desert wildlife wonders about in the high daylight, you know?

But again, shade, water and mud puddles are essential for survival, and natural relief is best I'm sure, that's why I limit air time to minimal relief during peak hours over 115

This year with the extra mansion space and shade I'm hoping there will be no need or very little need for air :D

115 is the magic number at my place, too. I run the misters for a few hours in the afternoon when the temps are over 115. Up to that point my birds do fine with shade, water, mud puddles, and small wading pools. Egg laying does subside a bit in the heat, but that's okay with me. I have an old breed of dual purpose birds. They're not supposed to lay every day all year round.

So fun things to know about roosters

Here's another fact as seen in action by mr. Roo bubu, during sit down special treat time, the rooster will corral away the hens who are not currently laying, so that the ones that are will get the most treats. Currently all are laying so he just stays away to allow them to eat. But during molting season, he sure did a lot of corraling as most weren't laying back then!

If you have more than one rooster, they will also chase away hens they don't favor so "their girls" can eat first. I've also seen roosters chasing certain hens out of nesting boxes so "their girls" can go in there to lay an egg. The boys know how to take care of their girls.

And the weather gal referred to today as "breezy". Seriously? I saw Dorothy's house fly over this afternoon! That's a bit more than "breezy".
LOL!! Ya, we've got a new neighbor that graded a whole bunch of his property, and now everytime we get winds like today the whole neighborhood turns into the Great American Dust Bowl.

If anyone is interested, I just revived the Arizona Gardening thread for Spring. Figured it's about time... :)

Haha!!! So you have a laundromat, and don't need it... we don't and i do need it, and the closest one is 20 miles away... :(

That's the way it always works! Thinking about it now, I guess it's not a bad idea. You can get a good meal while waiting for your laundry. I heard they have good food. Then again that could be it's the only place to eat in town.
