Arizona Chickens

Urban Decay is awesome stuff! That's a really fun brand. I am obsessed with their eye shadows. They have a few nice neutral palettes that are low maintenance and quick to apply, and they last all day.
When I'm just around the house I don't like to wear anything but a moisturizer with sunscreen, but it's nice to find the brands that work for your lifestyle.

I was a model back when I was 16 so I sort of became addicted to makeup artistry. I'm still a Bare Minerals fan for powder foundation, and mix it with face powder from Clinique to keep it lighter. I don't like a lot of makeup, but I still wear it when I go out. Around the house....my chickens, dogs and husband like me just fine without it. ;)

yes i don't wear it out with the chickens or house cleaning usually how funny i must of sounded!! lol (to me at least) i forgot to mention :he i was testing it out since i just got it, to make sure i liked it before going out in public lol last time with becca i didn't test it beforhand and after a couple hours i look in the mirror and i was red except for my t-zone which had thick yellow on it so i looked a sight lol

so i was like i'm going to test it out today if it can stand up to chicken work it can stand out in public!!:gig

btw what sunscreen does everyone like? i'm trying out natural australian gold 50 spf

oh, and its raining and thundering so look out west just in case!:ya

I rarely if ever wear sunscreen. I used to wear it religiously, and got skin cancer twice. I stopped wearing it and no skin cancer.

Soooooo......on another thought. An acquaintance who had cocci in their young chicks earlier this year asked me if they needed to treat the ground where their chickens live. I suggested they just move their little house over to a new area since they had grass and just a few girls - 10 I think. Has anyone ever had this question or problem? I've been pondering on it for a bit. Wondering what an old chicken keeper who's been there and back again might say. Thoughts anyone? @cavemanrich??

It's pretty much impossible to kill cocci in the ground with anything but time. Rotating to different pasture each year with a minimum of a year of rest is the only "preventative" measure I've ever heard of for the ground rather than the animals themselves.

That's strange. They say that sunsceen is supposed to help you to keep from getting skin cancer.

I have a blue egg trying to hatch out now. It will be a NN/CCLB cross. I'll have to put a little blue band on it's left leg, so I will know it hatched from a blue egg after it finishes hatching out and dries off.

I suspect some people are more sensitive to the synthetic carcinigenic chemicals in the sunscreen than they are to the actual sun... :p

That's why I went with Australian gold using natural sun protectors like zinc :)

Oh and apparently 50 spf is the highest they can go rumor is they lie to you if it says it's more

Great, now Rockie went broody today! I took her out of the nest twice tonight and stopped her at roost time from going in and put her on the roost.

Thankfully she wasn't fully determined to nest and stayed on the roost

But tomorrow might be a different story for Rockie. She may not want to roost!

Just an update on my hatch before I go to get some sleep. I had one chick that hatched from a blue egg and is now sleeping and drying off, and now I have 2 more blue eggs that have cracks in the shell's, but those chicks are not out yet. No sign of hatching yet out of my light tan eggs yet.

I believe that rumor! When I worked at ulta we learned that the SPF number had to do with how long the sunscreen protected you, not how "powerful" it was. I don't remember the exact numbers but something like SPF 15 protects for an hour, SPF 50 protects for 3 hours for example. We learned that after a certain amount of time you've got to reapply the sunscreen. People make the mistake of putting on SPF 75 and thinking they are good to go for an entire day in the Arizona sun. It's misleading marketing.
