REALLY not looking forward to more mosquitoes. I feel like I've been eaten alive the last few weeks. I can't wait for the end of mosquito season. I'm so over it.

@DesertChic dislike long rains like we both had. We are still wet, wet, wet although the standing water has gone down. I wonder if those mosquito things called "dunks" would work when you get water like that? They are supposed to be good for everything. I just finished a package in the drainage ditches - I break them up and put them in. When the water goes down they work on the mosquitos and when it rains again they activate again. Wish I could get something for the horse flies from down the road!! They will be storming by the weekend and my eliminators aren't enough to take care of them and mine too.
@cactusrota this is what I have been working on over the years and only have a smaller area that is totally ugly still. Most of it is okay when it rains except for day and night long rain sessions!! The girls love it too. Cleaning is a PITA but you get most in general as you put in more and scrape up the old. At least that's how I do it.

@BlueBaby and @meetthebubus I know we are hoping for under 100 but I think we still have some 103-105's still coming up - maybe until the end of the month. I'm taking down the misters, probably tomorrow. That's not hot enough to turn them on for me.

@FeatherPugs I'm going to play it safe for now and leave my mister's up for awhile longer. I just don't have them on the timer anymore, and will manually turn them on if needed if it get's over 105*. Although come to think about it, the 3 yard rooster's haven't had any misters for them, just food and water and they are still doing ok. They go under the storage truck for shade from the hot sun, and roost on top of my run at night.

The chickens here got a little treat today. The flock got broken up pizza crust that I saved for them from last nights pizza from Papa Murphy's. The yard roosters got what was left on corn cobs. They all were so excited!

Anyone else's hens start molting yet? I've got about 4, maybe 5 who are. It's really cut back on egg production, but that's ok. They look so pathetic with their bald patches and new feathers sprouting out My dad and stepmom are coming from Iowa to visit next week, and I can't wait to show off the coop. Too bad my girls will be sporting such funny looking feathers, but oh well! I also was wondering, not that I have roosters, but do they molt too?

Yes, I have a couple that were old enough to molt for this year, but most of mine were hatched too late this year, so they shouldn't molt until next year. Yes, rooster's go through molt too, just like the hen's do.
