Arizona Chickens

I think my girls have finally finished their molting. Wow did some of them look really silly missing their neck feathers :gig:lau

Now see? If you had the Naked Neck one's they would look like that all year round, and there would have been a few less feather's in your yard to worry about cleaning up! :lau

True, true @BlueBaby but those pour shoulders on the NN - they do take it hard! Picked up a bucket full of feathers again tonight. I just told them to finish already!! I heard that big companies have a way of feeding their feed and can make them molt all at once. Mind-bending!

Yes, but if they are all molting at once, not even one egg will get laid at all?

As of today, I am now half-way through on my December 11th incubator hatch.

Here's a question for those of you who raise chickens and have kids at home: at what age can I allow my daughter to start being around the chickens? I obviously won't be taking her into the coop as a newborn, but I would love for her to be able to learn about raising them from a young age. I remember enjoying and picking up my uncle's hens when I was young, about 4 years old I think.

My daughter was five, I just made sure she washed her hands right after handling the chicks or eggs. I am not too sure I would go too much younger than that. Sorry that’s the nurse coming out of me.

Now that winter is just around the corner,,,, are you getting these out of the closets for your NN.

Nah. We do a lot of business with this company and know all of the guys pretty well. He knows he can joke and be blunt with us and we won't get offended. It took a day and a half to install the whole contraption and we were all laughing and joking with each other the whole time.

Ohhh okay. That's good. I was thinking it was a random guy haha

That's good, then!

X2. Would be different if it was a total stranger

I was regularly out on the farm with my father as soon as I could walk. Mom took me out to see the animals, tied me to her body with an old sheet so she could feed them without leaving me alone in the house.
