Arizona Chickens

Morning All. Does anyone know of a breed that the roosters are docile ? I had to cull a roo that had started attacking, then the roo that took his place got stupid yesterday, I was in the run, opened up the old coop to get something, felt a bump against the back of my leg, didn't think anything of it, figured it was a chicken trying to get in. Then went to the new coop and as I am standing there opening the door, out of the corner of my eye I see Speed Racer trying to spur me, I'll be setting up a culling station today.. I hate the thought, but I'm not going to tolerate it. everything I've read is once they start there's no stopping them. 2 more roo's like this and I'll start buying hatching eggs and then culling any roo's out of the bunch

The naked neck rooster's are nice one's. My rooster is over a year old now and has never tried to attack me. He move's out of my way. I don't handle him though, and let him be what he is... a rooster. You seem to have some smaller hen's over there though, so your girl's might be too small for a rooster like him. The smallest hen that my rooster has been breeding is a Crested Cream Legbar.

@igorsMistress @BlueBaby , Thank you ladies, I've been offered a Amerucana and a amberlink, not sure which if either are docile.

Have you asked the people who offered them to you how they are? Why they are willing to let them go? How old are they? It's good to know some of the background about them.

I just did a quick google of the two Roosters I've been offered and it sounds like the amberlink is the best choice for easy to get along with roo's. I do still have Sir Poops a Lot to consider.. if worse comes to worse, I'll buy hatching eggs and cull the roos. I've asked the gentleman offering the roos what he'd like me to do should the roo get stupid, I won't just take off his head before seeing if the gentleman would like to have him back.

If you lived closer and your hen's were bigger, I'd let you have one of my naked neck boy's for free.

Thank you.. I wish I did live closer.. I'd love to add one.. it's spring time so people are getting roo's that they are offering for re-homing. Most of the folks around here want just hens, but can't afford to buy the sexed chicks, so they hatch their own and then either cull or offer up the roo's, I have a friend that I gave one of my roo's who culls his at 2 y.o. , others can't do that so they offer them up for free. Have another friend who has "breeds" that sells his hens and roos. I'm afraid I've become addicted to hatching..lol, so have to have a roo for that.

Having your own rooster to hatch your egg's is much cheaper than buying hatching egg's all of the time. But every now and then, you have to get a different rooster in there from another bloodline so that all of your flock doesn't get too closely related to each other.
