Arizona Chickens

I would introduce on leash to prevent chasing and see how things go. Your birds will likely bolt if the dogs act as though they'll chase and that's what you often need to curtail. The desire to chase prey.

I would be most concerned with the collie but the Chihuahua could also feel that desire.

I have a fence, one yard for dogs and one for chickens.
And on the other side of the coin, chickens that are nervous and act it will trigger normally good dogs. So getting both the dogs and chickens comfortable with each other is really helpful. It's the same with dogs and cats. Cats that are confident and will stand up to dogs generally don't get chased. My dogs are great with confident cats and will even sleep and cuddle with them, but as soon as the same cat runs for any reason, the dog is after them because it's just their instinct.

What is everybody doing? Working until you drop asleep just because its cooler?? I know I have worked as much as I can. Its not much right now but the work does get done!! I have put two beds of tall fescue grass in - one about two weeks ago and one this evening. The ground squirrels are gone so I can try, try again. Seems they are smart enough to eat it from the bottom so I've put some fencing down on the main ground. Then the "topper" type soil - I like the Kelloggs brand - then the seed - really thick - more is better right? Then I put on more topper if needed and the thingee that allows the grass to grow through but the chickies can get to the grass - my brain blew the name of it out my ears - anyhow that protects that part then I put a caged topper thingee on it too just because I have it. The fescue grass grows fast. Then in Jan/Feb I usually seed over it with some bermuda grass - last year it lasted well into the summer'ish months until the ground squirrels found it and zip - gone!! Hope everyone is well - you know I live vicariously through you all :frow- so introverted lately. :love

I'm here - I always check in and see how everyone is doing. Flock is doing okay. I've lost a couple girls - one was cancer in her egg area - it was ugly - skin coming out her vent and everything. The other was an old girl. It was just her time. Otherwise all is well - not as clean as usual but all is well. My next project is changing out the lights. It is tedious but not a hard job. Just know I do check on ya'll to make sure all is well.

We miss you! We want to know you're ok too :)
