Arizona Chickens

Oh, did you see that thread a few days ago with the gray ones? I think they were in Florida, that's why I ask.

They are called blue's. She's running 8 hen's to 1 roo and she said the hen's are laying like crazy. That's who I'm getting the 2 dozen from. They aren't the bantam one's though.

They looked interesting. what are they derived from? they kinda looked like orpingtons.

I'm not sure, but my guess would be from the Black/Blue/Splash Australorp's, as I don't know of anyone that is running pen's of Orpington's with just those color's.

Good afternoon AZ. I hope you're all well.

@FeatherPugs. How are things going? Getting things done and organized?

@SonoranChick we haven't heard from you in a while. How's the baby? Your flock?

We're getting ready for the summer here. I'll be downsizing the flock by the end of February. I'm still deciding whether I'm going to try to keep 2 roosters or not. Hubs is cleaning up the box fan and I'm ordering a new mister for this year. I'm debating between another stand mister or one I can attach to the fan itself. We'll see. It's a hassle to unhook the hose in there when I need it. My garden is doing great! We should have artichokes and carrots soon. Still waiting on celery and potatoes too. I've just put in some squash, peppers and a few herbs from seed. We also added a grass frame for the chickens with some xeriscape grass.

What is everyone up to lately?

@igorsMistress - what is xeriscape grass? I keep working on everything. House is listed and folks are doing the looky loo thing but Sat there is a realtor showing so I'm trying to make sure things are as uncluttered as possible - dang that's hard without a place to put "stuff" that has been packed or waiting on the moving sale! I'm feeling less ugly all the time and just ugly once in a while - that too will get better. Thanks so much for asking.

It's so great that the uglies are fading with time. It sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy. As for moving, my folks ended up renting a storage for stuff they were keeping for that very reason. They were selling their house and going on a trip at the same time. We collect so much over time!
Xeriscape grass is a mix I found online that is supposed to do well in our climate. It has various things in it including clover, yarrow and a few types of gras. Here's a link to the company I purchased from. I have just a small frame right now but I want to add a long thick row along the back wall of my yard https://ptlawnseed.com/collections/...ns/products/pt-705-xeriscape-lawn-alternative

My 3 extra roo's are gone now to another home. I still can't tell who are the boy's in my last hatch of chick's. I'm getting 2 dozen shipped hatching egg's soon.
Morning everyone. @BlueBaby , looking forward to hearing about your new hatch, I've got 6 NN eggs to put in the incubator, I'm really wondering if I want to do this..lol. The bachelor pad is done, everyone (Roo's) are going to get transferred today, want to get pictures of the NN's, I figure those will go quick, then I have my barn yard mix. Got to get them out of the coop/run. I think I've picked the one's I want to keep, the Americana, the mix not really sure and can't find the name of it, a BIG black one (this guy might end up in the bachelor pad as I've caught him picking on a couple of hens.) and then the little one that I sent you the picture of with the interesting colors. They'll all be posted on my FB group. If not gone in a week or so, I'll have to go back to practicing sending them to the great run in the sky..

I probably should not have done it, but I just set 6 hatching eggs, all are from Charlie and I believe 1 of my black NN's

What about that one Veteran's place that you sell those egg's at? Couldn't you put up a notice there that you have rooster's to downsize? Someone there might take some of them off your hand's.
