The mailman delivered them today after I posted that earlier. They are unpacked and resting now. There are 7 Black Sex link's, 5 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and 1 Black Hona that was put in as an extra. I gave the mailman a dozen of my flock's egg's for eating.

I have ordered hatching egg's from several of the BYC member's in the past, and this batch is also from a BYC member. I do hatch egg's from my own flock too. I add new one's for gene divercity mainly. I like ordering my egg's from breeder's, not from the hatchieries. I just wished the shipped egg's hatching would have a better ratio.

Hatching your own is addicting, and you could end up with chick's coming out of your ear's! I already have more than I need here.

I have no doubt. His uncle incubated them on the farm to supplement income. I already have chicks coming out my ears.

Yes, and it's the extra boy's that are hard to get rid of, unless you plan to eat them. The sexlink's are easier to tell at hatch what they are, and that way if you aren't into eating the boy's, the boy's don't need to go under a heat lamp after they hatch?

I am not sure I'd be able to eat them. My husband would have no trouble dispatching them for dinner. We have been told there is a local agricultural high school in PV that would possibly take roos for class. That or they would go to friends for dinner. I'm already planning separate coops for any roos we may have since my hubby bought straight run chicks. We had a few roosters roaming with the flock when I was a kid. I recall very few fights. On the occasion, there was a spat my dad would smack the hades out of the attacking rooster with a broom. But they were free ranging birds. Can't do that up here with all the hawks & eagles we have flying around.

Yes, you always have to have a plan for those boy's. They usually end up with the short end of the stick, as they say. Not many people want them unless they need one for breeding their own flock's. The rest either become dinner, or get dumped somewhere.

I'm thinking I will get pullets for the roosters if we know what breed they are so hubby can hatch out breed chicks. At least they would have a purpose. I am not a fan of people who dump animals, I don't care what they are. I've rescued too many horses that were dumped during hard times. I will never understand how people can dump any animal. But that is not a rant I want to get into right now lol
