Arizona Chickens

Good morning Arizona

Looks like we have another heat wave coming. My outdoor swamp cooler is out of commission due to an electrical problem, so I'm getting a second battery for my Ryobi bucket-top misting fan and I'll have to move it and aim it at the roost. That'll have to do for the hot evening/night temps. I was hoping that we'd seen our last heat wave!

I'm pretty much over the triple digits too. I hope your mister bucket helps, it's better than nothing for sure.

Bucket-Top-Misting-Fan! How have I never heard of this before!!! This sounds great!

Here's the slow going progress on the chicken coop/fortress rebuild. This is from a few days ago we've since added blocking getting ready for siding. Still need to fortify run area from ground predators. And I think I could split those previous egg boxes in 4 and have more than enough! I don't think I'll be using them at all actually - probably end up as cubby holes for storage somewhere else.

Nice! Is that a little greenhouse behind there? Do you use it year round?

It's a HUGE greenhouse about 24'x64' - Yes in use year round. We only have half of it in use right now with shade cloth over that half. I need to get a full size shade cloth but don't have the funds right now. We bought this property partially because it already had the greenhouse, well, and some other farm buildings on it and a livable OLD mobile home on it.

Here's a picture of the bucket top misting fan, I got it at home depot. it uses a ryobi battery pack. different price levels of battery pack last for longer. I have a 1.5 amp hour, it lasts up to a few hours. I bought a 2 amp hour which should last 4 or so hours. You have to make sure not to run the bucket dry though. the 3 hour run time barely makes a dent in the water in the bucket.

below is the cause of my house's electrical problem, I had a portable personal size evap cooler. fortunately none of my birds were electrocuted. Actually a blessing in disguise because I found other problems in the panel that I have a licensed expert coming to check out...Sticking to the battery operated misting fan for now. I also have a misting fan that plugs in but has a gfci plug, is clearly meant to be outside, unlike the personal AC that was plugged into this cord....

Sweet deal, that's pretty huge! I'm green with envy. I would make that kind of decision based on the same factors lol.
