Arizona Chickens

Were the other two clear or stop progressing somewhere along the way?

I think I am only 3 days behind you in hatch.

The other two were totally clear. No development at all. Probably infertile to begin with. They were discarded on day 9.

Yes. Of the 4 Orphingtons you gave me 2 were fertile and two were not.

Hi ya'll!

Miss me?

I have certainly missed everyone here.

How is everyone doing?

I am doing ok-- got laid off this week, but as you all know...I really, really hated it there. So, no worries--just relief.

Kids are good, chickens are good, turkeys are good. Even the garden is faring pretty well against the night freezes.

If you have a moment, can you give me a quick recap of the last few months? Anything major happen?

Laree. we truly have missed you!

We've been joined by a goodly number of Arizonans to our little thread. Nifty deleted a bunch of threads and posts.

A week from today I have over 80 BYCers joining me in setting eggs for my 2nd Annual New Year Years Day Hatch.

I have W/BW Marans coming from Illia in WA (I hope)
I have TWO DOZEN Icelandic eggs coming from Mary (The Warden) from Northern California.
I have about a dozen various eggs (FBCM, a silkie and other surprises coming from Patty (onthespot) from Southern California.
I have 7 or so W/BW Ameraucana eggs coming from Kathy (halo) from Florida and
I have a dozen FBCMs coming from Renee (Chookschicks) in Kansas.

Plus whatever my lazy buts lay... I've got 20 eggs so far plus whatever they lay between now and Saturday.

Hope you had a Blessed Thanksgiving...

So sorry you got laid off, even though you don't mind, it worries me that the economy isn't getting any better.
I've picked up at work a little-- THANK the Lord... but when all is said and done, I've got less in the bank this year than less... of course I did trade in my 2000 BMW for a used 2009 HondaPilot.... had I not done that I'd have a little savings.

My son has actually taken some pics with the duck... but I don't think he gets the concept... it's him with the duck in front of stuff instead of the duck in front of stuff.

Maybe I will join you in setting some eggs. I haven't tried to hatch in a loooong while. There is a horrifying story associated with my last hatch, which I will spare you. Tucson Tofu sent me some pics of the hen she hatched "most promising cross"...and I am floored at how pretty she is. Maybe I will do some of those!

As for the duck...any picture is a good picture. Even if I have to use Microsoft Paint to draw an arrow to it.

I hope he is doing well---he must be freezin' his tuckus off right now.

NoSkiveez, it's a rare breed from Iceland. They are trying to bring them back. Pretty cool looking. I was trying to talk Mahonri out of his 'excess' eggs.

He declined, figuring he would make room for them somehow. I was just trying to be helpful. Really. hehehe

Right now, her fertility on her Icelandics is only running about 50% so I'm thinking that by the 21st I'll have lots of room in my bator for the eggs I'm going to stack for the first 10 days in the bators.

Mary (The Warden) is trying to help bring them back from the bring of extinction. If you want to read a great thread, go to the breeds and genetics section and read the Icelandics threads. It's an education.

She has folks all over the country breeding birds they got from her eggs. They are between standard and banty in size and lay medium to small white eggs.

Once I get my crew up and running, I'll be giving away eggs for folks who will keep them separate from other birds so that we can keep the DNA pure.

Yhey had to have had the wrong person. Im sure i dont have anything like that. I'd be happy to build a pen for a preservation project. I'd actually be happy to help. I've got to get some pictures of the Marans. I've got one blue wheaten that's very neat. I love looking at the coloration. I will take some picture tomorrow. Tomorrow is coop cleaning day anyway.
