Arizona Chickens

I don't have TV, just the internet. So it's weather underground and for news, epoch times, amac.us, etc. I think people saw all this coming, or feared it, and that's why they all bought chickens/chicks, just out of desperation, trying to line up an alternate food source, in case they couldn't count on the govt to feed them during 100 days of shutdown.

My DH is a couch potato and like's watching tv way more than I do. I try to keep myself busy doing other worthwhile thing's. I had my flock going way before all of this covid stuff started, and made sure that I had some roo's here to replenish mine if need be.

You could be right, many people who obviously don’t typically garden have been in the garden centers this year and it was difficult to get chicks for a bit from what I heard. I think all this may just slam home the preparedness bit for some people that never thought about it before. I’ve heard a couple of new roosters this winter, one particularly close, that I never used to hear. I’m in the suburbs and it’s not common.

Indeed... all this political nonsense as of late has slammed home the preparedness aspect for me. Been thinking about it for many years, but procrastinated for just as long. Thankfully, I kicked my procrastination to the curb earlier this year.

I’ve always been a little bit of a prepper, we lived in So Cal for a long time and needed to be ready for earthquakes. I’ve had fowl and a garden since before covid, although we are still in the suburbs for now out of necessity.

I guess that's the bright side, that people are starting to think more about where their food comes from, and I guess if they went so far as to start a garden or a flock, many of them will improve their skills and even get more people into the chickens, gardening etc.

Time will tell I suppose.

Good for you! I'm glad that people are starting to wake up and realize that the Government isn't going to take care of everyone. They have their own self-interests at heart. It is ridiculous how they have scared people so bad with those inconsistences and divided the people so much. Now they are talking about a great reset and a cashless society by 2030 where they can control everyone better.

I'm another one without TV, and only internet. The internet connection is not strong. I'm just within the boundaries for having electricity--another mile and it wouldn't be available. Natural gas lines don't run out here, so I'm on propane. Everyone out here either has a well or hauls water. I'm lucky enough to have a well.

A few years ago I got a great deal on this place because it had been allowed to get run down, so I sold my house outside Flagstaff and used the cash to pay off that mortgage, this mortgage, do some repairs, and buy a car made in this century.

This place is huge for one person, but at least it's quiet.

I've been able to hear a rooster off in the distance when I'm outside since before I got chickens, but now there's another one off in another direction. They can't be heard from inside the house. Apparently Big Ben has noticed, because they were taking turns crowing this morning.
