Arizona Chickens

Has anyone had success with eradicating puncture vine? It's a huge problem in our yard and a constant irritant to our poor dogs.

With all the rain we've been having I'm anticipating it's really going to explode here in a bit.

Won't some weed killer get rid of it? Also, you can lay some of that salt that comes in a bags for swimming pool's down and it will kill weed's, but don't get it near a plant that you want to keep because it will kill them too.

I've had to pull it. Once we moved to a new property, and bladed it but then had to pluck the individual ones as they came up. I don't know if any organic weed killers work on it or not.

Safflower and sunflower seeds are good supplements for chickens. I have found that the black oil sunflower seeds (shell on) work the best for me. For my 25 birds I give them a hand full or so every day.
Yes, same here. I gave them late in the day for about a week. Their overnight caca was almost black, kinda freaked me out..Photo for fun

Good article. I'm subscribed to Weed 'Em and Reap on YouTube, very interesting family and projects. Another informative channel is Edge of Nowhere Farm. They have a 6 acre piece of flat desert that they farm (including chickens) outside of Phoenix, I think in Wittmann. Very nice couple, hard working and efficient, and they answer questions in the comments section.
Agh, that site is from my friend Ayscia and her friend Jennifer. They are a great help, along with Tony Sarah from Tucson that has the best gardening fertilizers. If you can find the interviews, she came by when they 1st started and asked if I would participate in a write up, interview. Honestly, I kinda suck at that kinda thing. I don’t think she is doing them right now, but went to videos.

I have a packet of red carpet thyme seeds... my idea (lets see if it works) is to maybe put the seeds around the edges of the pathway, and maybe the silver carpet in the center. Of course the seeds move around w the wind and rain, but that's ok too. I have last year's livingstone daisy plants sprouting everywhere.. it is an ice plant variety, but same issue, seeds are as small as fine ground pepper, so they move around on their own. I also added some yellow and purple larger ice plant seeds before the last rain around the perimeter of my yard. Im just trying to keep as much green cover going as possible. I'll take before and after pics..
oooo, yes share photos, sounds lovely

There are charities that will feed people, and food stamps. There's no reason to go into someone's yard and steal a chicken.
I’m not advocating the theft, but many charities are begging for food to distribute and you have to qualify for food stamps. Reality and qualifying are two very different things sometimes.
